the end of sunday.
“So
the rumors are true. I will have to be sure to pay closer attention to that
stall.”
Shaid
said. “They have been playing up the mystery. The odd pieces will be introduced
Monday. It should make it clear where they are from. The guessing brought in a
lot of traffic and the items let them make sale. Now it is time to find out if
the sales will continue when it is clear where the goods are from. My money
says they will, but they are not so sure. Felling that is different when the
goods are being resold as to come directly, and the fact that they are selling
there own items not found objects will hurt sales.”
Anther
said. “I have not noticed any one changed around so I was thinking the guesses
would be wrong. But I take they were hiding to enhance the talk?”
“In
part, and then most of those who came have few visible changes. I believe that
is slowly going to change as folks get used to the idea of them being around.
There was concern over possible reactions. But yes the changes will be easier
to spot and those that have stayed at the house will be working. That is if
things go as planed.”
“I
can see why they would worry. I can’t wait to see what they have. I will do
what I can to see they are put to easy, and you are right. If anything the
sales are going to increase.”
Shaid
said. “I was wondering something. I know it used to be that the locals were
expected to furnish the gowns the visitors wore at the last ball. Is that still
the case and if so do you know how I could go about donating some cloth? It is
all tasteful, just bright. Lady Kashmer’s daughter and nice stopped by and fell
in love with some pieces but their chaperone did not fell it safe to buy them.
Then there are a few other pieces I thought the young ones would like.”
“Yes
it is and if it wasn’t I might just have to reinstate it anyway. The nonsense
of make young ones dress so plain so they don’t cast a shadow on her. May I see
what you have?”
Lady
Night said. “Really? Is that why they are such wall follows? I had no idea it
was that bad. Those poor girls. I now fear what she will have them in.”
Shaid
was opening her bag. “I was told that the lady is getting a bit harder to deal
with. I believe she picked out the dresses herself. But did not ask more.” She
set the fabric out, setting the blue and yellow to the side. “The daughter
wanted the yellow and the nice the blue. I put a few more of the same pattern
in here as well. Some of this is from the ones sharing my stall. As you see we
made sure there was no red. I do not want to cause trouble. It is enough that
others will be wearing it.”
The
other lady looked over the fabric. “I think I can use this. It should match
well with what is planed. I will see that any not used is returned. Thank you,
it will be a help. There are more here than we were expecting.”
Shad
nodded. “You are welcome. Oh and you might want to avoid dragon images. It
seems that the lady is a bit scared of them just now. I was told that the
stories of killer dragons are making a come back in her kingdom. Might be do to
anther wreven problem, but that is not yet confirmed. Anyway she is like to be
a bit upset tonight, as um. Well she got dived at by some illusionary dragons.
Red ones, and um one pined a red rose on her shoulder. I truly did not think it
would scare her. Just annoy her. After all they were not even the best
illusions.”
Hope
said. “I thought the roses were yours. I saw them and heard of the show. We
were a few floats back.”
Lady
Night said. “I do not recall ever hearing of wreven’s in Kashmer. Genna?”
.The
lady with the mismatched eyes said. “We were never informed though there were
rumors.”
Shaid
said. “I was told it will be reported this time. As to the other, it is a not
deigned rumor that I am going off of. I do know that the army was short staffed
for some time. As I understand they are not sure of what it is. But are going
to ask for help in determining.”
Genna
said. “I will see my husband knows so the right people will have the time to
talk.”
Shaid
nodded and turned to Hope and stopped. “Wow that is better than I had hoped it
would be. You look amazing.”
Hope
smiled. “Thank you. I just hope the color and the blade are enough to keep a
certain young man away.”
Shaid
said. “If not bring up traveling with me, and something about a black eye. You
will be amazed at how fast he will leave.”
“A
black? You didn’t!” Shaid shrugged. “Wow no wonder you said she had it in for
you.”
“Believe
or not she thinks I want him. Even after I through him into the wall at her
ball. I still wonder just how we all made it out after that. Like I said I
never went back after that ball for a reason.” Just as in the box her words
were met with laughter. It was a few hours latter before she left the house and
as she half expected Thanel was waiting.
It
was getting dark by the time she managed to get back to her house. She reached
her door and started to open it then turned to look at the forests she took a
step towards them before she could stop herself. She was being called. Pulled
really. She turned her will on the pull and sent thoughts at it with all the
force she had. ‘I can’t come yet I am not ready. I do not have what I need to
make the trip and live. I will come when I do. I need to know more.’ She kept
thinking the same things at it until as sudden as it came it was gone. It felt
like hours but was just a minutes. Shaking her head to clear it Shade was nit
surprised to find she was a good bit closer to the forests than she had been.
Though she had no memory of walking. “Thank goodness it hit me after I was out
of the city. Hate to think of the mess I would have made, and at least I
stopped before I reached the trees.” She was still facing east, watching the
sky. Though she did not know what she was watching for.
Feather
said. “Are you all right? You seem a bit dazed.”
Shaid
smiled. “It has been a bit since the call was so strong. Once I find out who is
behind it I am going to have some things to say.” A wevian rose above the
trees. “So that is what I was watching for. Must be a few miles away. Still as nasty
as they are I had better report the sighting in the morning. I wonder what the
connection is. I knew they have nothing to do with it, but to often the pulls
are fowled by some animal or anther. Seldom are they friendly. So how was your
day?”
Feather
said. “You plan to find the source? That is not an esay undertaking. You did
not ask what had me out here.”
Shaid
said. “I know. I have been across the board. Not far, but far enough to have
some idea. Yes I am going to go. But not before I learn all I can. As I tell
it. It will do me or it little good if I die on the journey. I will come but
only when I am ready. I know you felt the call, not as I do. But you knew what
was going on. And you can not tell me what you know, so there is no reason for
me to ask. Flaner told me what he could share and taught me how to keep safe. I
have protections in place that would have stopped me once I was I was in the
trees. They will stop others to should it be necessary.”
Feather
said. “It was a good day. But after it we are not going to be able to keep any
of them from the stalls. Not that we really thought we would be were going to
try. I hope you wont mind.”
Shaid
smiled. “Not a problem we will be glad of the hands. The boys all have family
things to take care of so will not be there to help. I take it then no one was
overly insulated by the costumes? There were some far out things on the
streets.”
“No
not by the customs. Though some did wonder at your display. More along the
lines of if you really thought dragons looked like that than offended.”
Shaid
said. “They were bad illusions. But it was kind of a last minuet idea. I had
the roses ready, but was not planning on making such a show out of it. I didn’t
even think about it offending anyone. Or scaring anyone. Guess I should have
went with birds, but they just didn’t fit as well.”
A
young man said. “Scared? Your kidding me right? Those hasty things scared some
one? I am glad to here you know they were tacky but. Really?”
Shaid
said. “Lady Kashmer fainted. Though the faint might be fake she was truly upset
by them. And I thought it was plain they were illusions. I had seen such done
before. Yes they were very bad, but fitting for the show I thought.” A much
better looking dragon, this one a tan, appeared in the air. “There, fell
better?”
He
looked at the dragon. “The wings are a bit off, but it a good bit better. So at
least I know you do have some idea of what one really looks like. So how is it
you are a changeling?”
Feather
said. “Shane you know better than that. Where are your manners?”
Shaid
said. “My mothers people are from a small border village that was not all ways
on this side of the border. They are traders, and ranchers, some preferring to
live in the village full time some taking to the road and other mixing the two.
When there was a band of killers running around trying to do away with trades
father sent us away. I ended up at that hidden village, which is where I
learned who my mother’s family was. I don’t think she knew I think is she had
she would of told father of the possibility. But then I never met her so I do
not know.”
Dorthy
asked. “Where did you get that dress?”
Shaid
said. “From Flaner, when I was eight. He said I would grow into and it would
see a lot of ware. I am not sure what he had in mind. But it felt right to ware
it today. I am sorry if it somehow offended you.”
Dorthy
said. “Not it is fitting. I was just wondering if it was the dress I thought it
was. I did not mean to sound upset.”
Shaid
said. “You didn’t it is just I know there is something important about this
dress. I just don’t know what. I did not want to be thought careless. Now then
the wagons will be here with the light so I had better get things ready. Say do
you ever make animal or flowers out of scraps? Like those pins I dropped? It was
suggested I have some for sale but I am not sure what I have left.”
Feather
said. “I think I can come up with some. Never thought of them as more than way
to keep kids busy. Be interesting to see if they do sale.”
Shaid
nodded. “It was better than just throwing the scraps away, but like you I never
thought of selling them. See you in the morning.”
Feather
nodded. “We will be gate some stuff in a bit so don’t get to excited. That is
what I was coming to say when the other hit. You have a good night.”
