7069 and we are about to move in.
Devlin's
surprise was easy to see. “I am sorry it upsets you, but this is
the first I have herd of such issues. We have seen no impact on
health from them, nor have I seen a study that has found such in the
journals, sir. I suppose that if one was to spend all day on them it
could be an issues, but no more than any office biased occupation
would be. Still, is it a problem that I have it out? I was just going
to send some messages home, but I can take it into my tent if it is
to disturbing.”
The
ranger said, frowning. “There is no rule, just don't like to see
anyone throwing their life away. It is your choice, of course, but do
be careful. It is far safer to have a mage or a fairy send messages
than use that device.”
The
ranger moved on and Devlin turned back to the table, getting a bite
before bring up the exchange site. That one he kept it simple, just
told them that bright colors were worn and about the kissing that
went on. He upload some pictures from the street. Then frowned a bit.
I think it would spoil to much to share the building to widely. All
need room to make mistakes. Just a general warning that the maps are
wrong for the service area of campus so it is best to ask for
decorations and not go wondering should do. After all it should be
common sense that there will be dangers there. Most will have done
there turns before coming so will have a better idea of training
grounds than me, and I know to expect there to be areas unsafe for
those not trained. However I am going to send the picture to the
family. Robin doesn't need to go trying that course alone and dears
can make him do things he never would otherwise. Knowing what the
building is will keep him from it. Though no doubt he will find a way
to have a go at it before the month is out. He just has to know how
he stands, and will want to try again the next to see how much
further he can get. That boy is going into the service, he is just to
driven not to. The branch I am not sure of. He isn't Air, or Gaint
would have taken him to the temple last year, but he could well end
up in a support team. They don't take them, just those that will be
bound to a dragon. The bond of the support is as strong but different
enough that it doesn't need the specialized classes that the riders
get. Whatever they are. Gaint told me that I didn't need to worry
about it, I would not be called to it, though there was a tie, it
wasn't to the Air service. Robin never said what he was told, least
not to me, but we are not close. Gale he might have told, but it is
hard to say, I don't know if they talked much.
Gale
kept so much to herself, even when she was young. I do wonder why she
hadn't gone to the temple. She clearly was called to the service, yet
I guess it wasn't to ours. Just what went on those last years? I
noticed she was more withdraw when I came home on breaks, but thought
it was just the normal teen age stuff. Once she was gone though I had
to wonder, but Robin said the fights between her and and Mother had
actually stopped. However he didn't know what they were telling her,
or what had her troubled. Anymore than I do. I should have noticed
the change in the messages, asked her more. I just put it down to her
age, I withdrew a lot my last years of high school as I was trying to
find my next steps, so thought that was all it was. Once she left
though, I wished I had of step in, told her that I would help if she
wanted to go not just trusted that she knew I would. No point in
this. What is done can't be changed. I just. I can't believe that she
wouldn't make it, no matter that there is no reason. I just. And that
is why they are so worried when her name comes up around me, and why
I had best say nothing of the girl. After all I don't know but what
it was just a trick of light.
Shaking
off the melancholy he opened a new message and started tell his
family of his day, making sure to put in the pictures. He hoped that
would help them feel better about coming here. It was going to be a
big change, but seeing a bit before they got here might help them
feel a bit less lost. As the words filled the screen he started
feeling better and was smile when he told them of meeting Vale. Using
him as a way to show just how diverse the city was. There truly was a
lot of different styles out there and he hoped that the pictures
showed it. Laughing a bit he put in the pitcure of the training
center. 'Now Robin, I know you are going to tell me that I am silly
for worrying about it. But look at the picture. You are not to let
any one trick you in to going into that building. Vale said that it
was obstacle courses, some with live weapons and ever year some were
trick into trying them. For all they do their best to keep the doors
locked. I am just beating that means that it is the specialist
training area. So please don't go in without a trustworthy guide. I
know you won't but feel better having said it. Vale said that there
are a number that like to prank the new porfs kids, just like they do
there. Somethings are the same no matter where you are. They must get
a large number of traders coming to the ports. I went through the
market on the way back and there was a lot that I couldn't identify.
You remember those little sweet red plums? Those that cost so much we
could just barely get one each? There were baskets full of them and
you could get three pounds of them for what we paid for one. Yes I
got a few, I had to. I was also glad to find that there were stalls
that should some ready to eat meals. I will be glad when I can move
into my apartment. I just can't cook on the camp stove. Anyway as I
was living I stopped by the public notices and found that one was
adds for the schools that had open enrollment. I have fliers for the
tree I thought you would like. One of the religious orders here has a
school that is light on math and science. It would still be both
genders, but still it might make Ellie and Rachael feel better about
attending a school. From the flier it doesn't look like the stress
their teachings in the classes to much. Then there was one for those
who plan to enter the service, that I thought Robin and Wall might
be interested in. the third is a school that seems geared to
nano-tec. I also went by the house so there are some pictures of it
attached. It looks large from the outside, and fairly new. I think
you will like it, it is just a short walk to the market or campus. I
don't know about the other schools, but they do has a bus rout
covering the city. Let me know what you want pictures of. I am just
going to be exploring the city for the next few days. Love you all.
It is odd, but it will be worth it.' he sent the letter and shut the
computer off, the went and got some fruit and a book to keep him busy
until he could sleep.
Chapter 2
The
rest of the week past fast often Vale would tun up and offer to play
tour guide. Thanks to that Devlin got to know the city fairly well,
and knew where not to go. He made sure that the others got the
information about the places that were unsafe but left most of the
rest off the reports to the exchange commission. Thinking it would
work better if the other students explored for themselves. He did
tell his family about some of the better cafes and stores. He didn't
say anything about the glimpse of the red haired girl, even after he
had seen her clearly a few times and knew it was Gale. The first to
times he was sure it was just his imagination as she was gone when he
looked again. The third time though she ans Vale were talking and
neither of them saw him. There was no mistaking it was her, or that
she was real. Still he said nothing in the messages, nor did he ask
Vale about her. He didn't know what the connection was, but felt it
was up to Gale. That when she was ready she would let him find her
and they could talk. Then he would see what if anything she wanted
said to the others.
