Dr. Jackson said. “I don’t think Black
tide is safe for humans yet, but there is a temple that overlooks some of it
which is. We would have to use an old gate, but there happens to be one not too
far for Governor Westmarsh’s home so it is conceivable that there might be a
way. There are a number of old sites in
the Westmarch lands and the forest behind it. Some no more than foundations,
others still whole. Therefore the Governor sees to it that all of his children
visit a temple and learn how to deal with the old spells, even if they never
use the knowledge. A couple of them have visited more than one and so know a
good bit of what they share, which includes languages. I was able to recognize
three in that picture.” He looked at Idrias and smiled. “Glad you made it to
the lecture. I was hoping you would feel up to it. I had them put a copy of Lovencrofts
article in your box, didn’t want you to miss it.”
Idrias shook her head.
“I do not know how he keeps getting published. I can’t wait to see what battle
he took on this time. I was running a bit late so didn’t have time to look, but
Gwen told me that there were books waiting for me. I need to go by the
bookstore then will go see what is there. I am sure that there were five different
languages, possibly six, but I am not willing to name the others, as the
samples were so small that I might be wrong about which of the family they are.
Did you catch the bit of the map on the blue one? I think it might just be
Hurn’t Reed of the continent.”
Dr. Jackson., nodded
smiling. “Good I am not the only one. Grege said it was Fisher, that there was
no way it could be Hurt, it had to be older. Grant was looking at the one on
the other side of the slide and so thought we were both mad.”
Idrias said. “I can
see Professor Hurbert being focused on the one of the Surern Content it has
been long since we have been able to access it, but Fisher? That was clearly
the Sandal cliffs in the upper corner, Fisher never made a map that detailed of
the west coast. He just barley sketched it at all. Making it clear he was just
going off reports. There is no way it is his, or a copy of his work. I can see
wanting to believe it is older, but how did he get Fisher? Thunder would have
been a better choice, but I think the shape is off. Might be a bridge between
the two, but I really think it is a match. That will have a lot of repercussions,
but I do think it is. Which means that city was occupied for more recently than
thought. Yet why are there no records of it? We have good maps of Emperor
Neill’s kingdom, but not a one has a city in a mountain.” Still, if so there
might just be answers there to Pickets march and how the Wraith came to be. The
North lands are healing and they are getting closer, redoing the damage is not
an option. The things that were done there still haunt us, the evil. It was
every bit as changing as the release of the warevector, just more distant so
the affects of it are accepted now. However it left the lands poisoned for
three centuries and counting. It is a tragedy that can never be undone or permitted
again. There has to be a better way to keep the Wraiths from us. The key is in
knowing where they came from, why they first attacked. Once we know that we
will have clues as to what needs to be done to stop them.
Dr. Burgaus said. “So
you know of Sir G. Hurnt?” They looked at him and nodded. “The map is signed,
but we are not sure that it is the Hurnt that was of Neill’s court or the one
that was of Million’s. We are leaning towards Million, as that would better
explain why the city was not even rumored of. Still, there are what seems to be
images of wraiths. Or so we think, but we know less of them, having the
distance. Those are among the images I wanted you to see. You have an early map
or maps? I didn’t know there were any whole maps from Hurnt’s court. All we
have are fragments, and records of the expeditions he funded. We were wonder
what happened to the maps. Clearly we need to be communicating better. There is
no reason that we shouldn’t be sharing this. We are allies after all.” He was
looking a bit troubled.
“There is a signature?
Do you have a picture?” Idrias and Dr. Jackson looked at each other and shook their
heads for they had both spoken. Idrias nodded and so Donald said. “We would
both like to see it, and the other images you are willing to share. You are
welcome to go through the maps and see what ones you want copies of. I don’t
know what ones Idrais has, but we can easily come back to Millton and go
through the collection. Now it is copies that are out but we do have some originals
in the archive that I can pull. However that likely needs to wait. I do think
that they are likely waiting for us at the gate.” He looked up and nodded a bit
and waved. “Yes, they must have there is Seth. I just said that you must think
we are lost so we had best be going.”
Seth said. “The others
were tired of waiting so I opened the gate and let them though then came to see
what you were talking about. I wouldn’t mind waiting, but they decided that the
Phillin map might help decipher the other one. That map now has them all trapped
in the study and was starting to wrap around Lord Nigle last I saw. It would
have been fine, but as Father was saying the spell to open it one of the girls screamed,
and so it attacked. I am sure that they will get the spell said, but thought I
had best see just what was keeping you.” Idrias laughed, she tried to hide it,
but the expression on Professors Aldsons face as the other two nodded was just
to much. “I do wish that Father would remember not to take it out before saying
the spell. Lady Nigle was just sure it was killing them, which wasn’t helping
anything. Mother did get her to quite down. I never did learn just what caused
the first scream, but are you ready? You know the spells on that beast better
than I do so can help more.”
Donald nodded. “Yes,
we are done here, just let me remind Helen where I’m going and we can leave. He
likely has it under control but those spell can be tricky when aroused. Do you
know if the luggage made it?”
Seth nodded. “It made
it and is in your rooms according the tags. We hope it isn’t to mixed up.” Donald
nodded and went to talk to Helen. Seth looked at Idrias and smiled. “Just so
you know sis His Majesty told everyone at lunch how you informed him he was
looking at the map upside down. He finds it funny that you didn’t know who he
was. Sadly a few of the others are outraged. Still I do think that you are
going to be getting more attention.”
Idrias shook her head
but before she could say anything Professor Alderman. Said. “She what? Just how
were you even there? And to be so disrespectful! Just how is it even possible?
I can’t believe how lax it seems you are here.”
Idrias said. “They
were not in a meeting, just standing around the map, so I saw no reason not to
go through the study. A few had some books they wanted and in getting the names
of the books I saw the map they were looking at. I couldn’t see why it was
upside down so asked. I had no idea who was there. This is my first congress
and so I have never met a lot of the people before. Therefore I am still
getting confused, and he was facing the map not me. I knew when he spoke and apologized
then, but he just thanked me for telling him. I truly just wanted to know if it
helped to have it upside down. Seth is super still informal or do I need to
leave time to change?”
Seth said. “As far as
I know nothing has changed, but I will check with Mother and come back if you
need to change. Are you going to the library?”
Idrias said. “No,
bookstore the new items are in, and there are some books that I need to get. Then
I will be at the library, but they have the books in my box so I shouldn’t be too
long. Just worried about looking at the new stock as I know it will take me
longer than I expect it to if I start.”
Seth smiled and
started to the door with the others. “Well If I don’t turn up, then you don’t
need to worry about changing for supper. Ray just know that if you end up
carrying some of the bags, father is going to insist you stay for supper again.
He has been saying you need to come around more. Have fun and see you at home,
if not before.”
Idrias shook her head.
“I have my bag with me so I can mange. It was just one time, and it was before
I had this pack. I think that is likely why Ray insisted I get it, come to
think of it.”
Ray smiled. “Come on
and we can go get those books. I will see that you are checking out by five
thirty, that should see you make it home in time.”
Idrias nodded. “Sounds
good and thank you, I will likely need the reminder.”
Idrias walked into the
study and set her bag and the extra books on a table then went on to the dining
room, knowing that she was cutting it close. She should have left sooner, but
she just had to get more than one copy of Flutain’s atlas, which took arguing
as they just had two out. Which was silly in the first place, I mean there were
six of us wanting it, and I was not the only one needing multiple copies. They
weren’t short just wouldn’t bring them out. I am so glad that Stewart came in.
I still think Ray called him. As it was I just barley had enough time to get
the books from my box, but I made it. Now then to see what happens.
She entered the dining
room smiling and made her way over to her parents. “I am sorry, I truly was
trying to get back sooner but had a bit of trouble with a couple of the books.
I fear they were not inclined to get them from the back, never mind there were
more of us wanting them then there were books on the self. Luckily the manger
came in and got it sorted, but that delayed me a bit. However I do have a copy
of Flutain’s new atlas for you. I bought eight copies, as I bet more here will
want it. I know that it wasn’t on the list, but I doubt if anyone thought to
find it. I did even consider it possible. Mother they had the new one by Helen
Rice and Geratin’s herb guide as well as the others you asked me to get. I
didn’t take time to sort them out, but will after supper.”
Someone said. “They
had Flutain? But that isn’t out yet. I know they said it wouldn’t be available
before the end of the month. I get to see one of those.”
Iron smiled. “I hope
that was eight plus your copy.” She nodded, flushing a bit for she truly had
gone overboard. “Good, and thank you. I am sure that we will need everyone of
them. I was wishing I had of asked you to bring back some more atlas, the large
maps help, but are not as detailed. Then I think most of us have been early
waiting for the new Flutain so we could update from the ten year old ones we
have. Is that one you had to wait on?”
Idrias nodded. “They have
eighty in stock but thought that they would just put two on the shelf. There were five others wanting copies, but
they didn’t see why they should bring more out. Most of the new books were that
way, but it was getting fixed. It just took longer than it should have. However
I do have all the books, and a few more.”
Alice said. “I am sure
they will be glad of the books and think you for getting those for me. I didn’t
look for the herb one to even be in the university bookstore and the other I
thought wasn’t out until next month. Did they have any good notebooks?”
Idrias nodded. “I have
replaced the ones I have used and a few extra. However I will have to see if
one of the others will get me some pens. They didn’t have the right kind. I don’t
know why they insist on just getting in the ones that never last more than a
page.”
Alice laughed. “Go on
and get something to eat. Lunch was long time ago, no matter what Ray talked
you into.”
Idrias took the hint
and went over to the table for a plate. This was being done in a browsing
style, with tables all over the room that you picked bits from as you wondered.
That would let the young group mingle more as the older ones gossiped, or
worked on the deals that needed to be done, but not on the floor of the
hearings.
