Zac said. “Well that is one way to
handle it. We are to experience the world and try new things, after all. So
stop looking at the drink and try it. I want to know if it is any good.”
Sara smiled and reached for the
glass, and took a cautious sip, then a bigger one. “It is odd, but good. Melon
and mint and cool. Kind of like tasting spring. That is what it reminds me of,
more than anything.”
Zac said. “I have to find out what
it is then. That sounds like it has to be tried. I think a person could spend a
month just going though the drinks on that list.”
Sara finished her salad just as
she heard Rebecca. “Well there you are! We will just join her Sir, if that is
all right.”
Sara was temped to say no, but the
room was filling up and it seemed silly to sit at the table alone. “Sure, there
is more than enough places here.”
Rebecca’s look made t clear she
hadn’t been talking to Sara, as the man pulled out chairs and handed out menus.
“Very good, enjoy your meal, ladies. The server will be along shortly for your
orders.” Sara had to wonder how tired he got of saying that.
Rebecca was looking at the menu as
if it would bite her. “I suppose it is to much to hope for something descant.
This folks clearly do not keep the day. What in the world is that?”
Sara said. “I have no idea, but
plan on find out, so I can order some time. If you just want something light
they do have salads on the back, rather than ordering a meal.”
The waiter came out and gave Abiram
and Zac there diner salads, then sate down Sara’s meal in front of her. Sara
blinked, there was more food on that plate then she usually ate in a day.
“Thank you, it looks amazing. By the way
what is this drink called? I have never had anything like it. It reminds me of
spring.”
The waiter said. “It does me as
well, it is the Red-mint chill on our menu. Other places just call it a melon
twist. Enjoy, I will be back in a bit for your orders, it doesn’t look like you
have had time yet to look at the menus.” She left them.
Sara looked down at her plate,
there was half a chicken on it, roasted in some herbs, potatoes and gravy, some
carrots and corn, two large bisects, but they were not like what they had at
home. It was not the usual wheat, but some other grain. There was all so
another vegetable that she thought might be a type of squash, but wasn’t sure.
“Well clearly I won’t be hungry this week. I just hope it taste half as good as
it smells.”
Zac said. “I just hope mine is as
good. That almost makes me wish I had asked for chicken, and I hate baked
chicken.”
Sara smiled. “I wanted something
different, and we don’t often have chicken at home. There are just to many of
us to make it reasonable.”
Rebecca said. “That hardly looks
like a Holly day meal, and way to much food for a lady. I don’t know what you
were thinking. I think a half salad will do nicely.” The others nodded.
One of the others said. “Even then
it is likely to be of the wrong ma for the day, but at least it will be closer.
I think the green salad will be best for today. The summer salad is tempting,
but not for to day, I think. Far to rich for the holy day, but there will be
all week after all. Clearly ordering a diner is a mistake for one delicate as
we. I would be so sick eating a portion of that.”
Sara said. “No one is going to be judging
what you eat but you. Do as you likely, but I am not going to eat salads all
week just because you feel it is wrong to eat a big meal. I have learned to
enjoy what I can and not fret over it.”
She took a bite of the chicken and was delighted at how juice it was.
She followed that with a bite of the potatoes and gravy. “This is unlikely
anything we make at home. I have never tasted spices like these. It is a
treat.”
Rebecca shook her head and said.
“I am not surprised at that. Ah there she comes.”
“Have you decided yet?” Each of
them ordered a half green salad and a glass of tea. The water said. “Very good
ladies, I will be back with those shortly.” The meal pasted in silence after
that. They didn’t even comment when Sara ate the piece of cake brought to her,
though they pointed left heir’s untouched. As you didn’t eat sweets on a Holy
day, the silence though was comment enough, and it didn’t go unnoticed.
Abiram stopped Sara on the stairs,
the other girls looked pleased, thinking he was going to correct her. Instead
he said, loud enough for them to hear. “Sara you want to come and play a game
of cards with us? We could use another player. It might help us relax a bit so
we can sleep tonight, if we think of something else a bit. Other than the fact
that how All of us do on the tests will reflect on the school and Newtown.”
Sara said softly. “I was going to
ask if you wanted to review a bit, but a game sounds more appealing. You are
sure it won’t cause you or Zac problems?”
Zac said. “We are related, no one
will even think twice about it. Well know one reasonable anyway. Though it
likely won’t help you any.”
Sara said. “All right then.” She
turned to the girls. “Lena I will do my best
not to wake you when I come in. Or when I get up. I am used to being up early
so likely will be gone when you rise.” She ignored the shocked looks and went
with her brother and cousin.
Chapter 4
Bixter, Tests
Lena was indeed a sleep when Sara got
up and took her clothes into the bathroom. She looked at the soaps and hesitated,
she really should be concerned about the fancy stuff. But it wasn’t like she
had any other to use. She looked them over and picked out the lightest secant
soap and shampoo she could then entered the shower. There were to set of selves
in there. One all ready held a bar of soap, so she set her choices on the other
set, and turned to look at the shower. It was not much different from those at
home, save there was a bit of magic on one of the pipes. There were two taps,
but the ones at home had a hot and cold tap as well, just the hot water didn’t
usually run the girls bath. She hesitated a bit, the magic was around the hot
water one so she shouldn’t. But then again what could it hurt. She turned it
and then let out an involuntary yelp. The water was hot. Quickly she reached
for the cold tap and was relived when the water cooled. A bit of fiddling and
she was able to get it comfortable. She took her time and enjoying the fact she
didn’t have to hurry though so as to not get to chilled. She got out and dried
off, half expecting a knock on the door telling her to hurry up, she dressed
and brushed out her long hair. Marveling at how wavy that shampoo had left it,
she braided it and pined it up, then set her head covering in place.
Leavening the room she saw that Lena was still in her bed, though perhaps not as asleep
as she appeared to be. Sara fastened her purse into place and then put her note
books a couple of books and, a bit reluctantly, she added in her embroidery, as
she knew she should, but really doubted if it would leave the bag. She then
left the room, shutting the door softly, and started for the stairs. Think of
bacon and hash browns, with a glass of juice and a cup of tea. Surely they
wouldn’t’ mind both, she hoped to do some reading there, before moving to the lobby.
They wouldn’t leave for a few hours yet, she just hoped it wasn’t to early for
breakfast, she had meant to ask.
She was relived to see a few
pother people on the stairs and felt even better when she entered the dinning
room and found there were people at the tables and others waiting for a table.
She joined the line waiting and watched the food being taking out to the tables.
Seeing it she changed her mind about what she was going to have. There was not
long to wait.
It was a different person than
last night. “So a table for one or are others joining you?”
Sara said. “It will be just me,
sir.”
He said, “Then I have a table for
you. Right this way.” He led her to a table that was set for one, pulled out
the chair and handed her a menu once she was seated. “The server will be by in
a bit.”
He left and Sara looked at the
menu, flipping to the omelets, it didn’t take her long to find the name of the
one she wanted, but she was still trying to decide on a juice when the server
showed up. “So are you ready to order?”
Sara smiled. “I would like this
around the world omelet with hash browns, but I am bewildered by your bread
choices, so would you mind just bring the type you have most of? With breakfast
tea and some juice, and there again I am stumped, having no idea what half of
them are.”
The server said. “No problem. Few
of you kids are used to the choices. I will just bring you something I think
fits the omelet.”
