Jack said. “What look?” He was watching her put the contents of the vial into the water, the water turned am awful reddish brown. “Um Are you sure? That stuff can do a lot of harm.”
Sara said. “You know what look, the look anyone gets when the pull dugs out of a bag. Yes I am, but it the only thing that works. Well that doesn’t make me sick. Trust me when ever there is a new possibility it gets tried. No one is happy with it.” With a grimace she drank the glass in one go.  The tension in her shoulders eased and she looked a bit more relaxed. “It will take about five minuets for full effect, but it will stop the throbbing. I wish it wasn’t needed. But at least I get a warning when it is going to rain. I never take it unless there is no choice, in fact my doctor thinks I take it less often than I should. And we disagree over the dose. Hence the water, it weakens the drug. It works some what to just drink it after, just incase some tries to drug you some time.”
Jack said. “Eat the cake. Only thing that will work, or the only thing the church will accept?”
Sara said. “How am I going to eat dinner if you fill me with sweets? There is nothing small about a meal at the hotel.” But she took a bite of the cake. “Why do you think those are two different things? But no, there is no answer that a healer has either. One was consulted when I first got sick. The pain is a last effect of a bigger illness, and it doesn’t respond to healing.”
Jack frowned. “That is a very short list.”
Sara looked at Abiram. “See told you there would be questions, and it would have been worse had I asked to leave the test early. Yes it is a short list, and I was very sick, after all the church called the healer. You know how often they will let one in, little own call one. This is good cake. Say did you find anything interesting in my books?”
He looked at her. “Yes there is a lot of value in there. I can’t believe people would just throw it out. I would love it if there was a way I could see more. But that is unlikely right now.”
Abiram said. “You just have to try. I wonder which one of those schools with the weather program is yours. So Sara you said something about a head ache? Anything I can do?”
Sara said. “I have managed to make the girls stop talking to me all together. Which is fine now, but I am worried about the long term. Father thinks I should spend time with Rebecca, he is not going to like that she is not talking to me. He might not be able to ask why, but he will know she found me lacking. But still I can’t say I am exactly upset at the thought of her not speaking to me.”
Abiram said. “I don’t think she can keep it up for long. I think it is time to pack this up. I see people heading to the doors. Let me have your bag.”
Sara said. “I can carry it.” he took it and headed to the door. Sara shook her head a followed.
Back at the hotel Sara stared for the stairs Abiram said. “Not so fast, supper then you can go up stairs. If you go up first you will get into bed and not wake until midnight, and you would be starving. The dinging room would like still be open, but I don’t think they need to see your night gown.”
Sara said. “I wouldn’t come down in my night gown. I haven’t in years. It is a bit early for supper.”
Zac said. “No its not, you just took you meds and want to sleep. You can sleep after supper. Come on, it won’t kill you to eat.” Sara gave up and went with them.
The greater said. “Right this way.” He showed them to a table, Sara wonder how they were getting seated when there were people waiting. “You food will be out shortly.”
Aibram said. “Excuse me, but are you sure? We didn’t order.”
He said. “Orders and reservations were called in for you.”
“Called, for us? But.”
“Yes sir. I was a bit surprised my self, but the person was sure.”
Zac said. “Thank you sir, and will you give the custom you made them our thanks as well. It is unexpected, but there is no point in arguing about it.” He turned to Sara once the man had left. “So how long is the storm going to be around? Think it will be gone tomorrow?”
Sara said. “It should be. I am hoping to spend some time at the mall, I want to see what it is, and hope it will help me knock of some of list. The money from the elders came with a list of history books the library wants, and then Grandpa sent a list. Plus I want to get some gifts, I want more than the normal wedding gifts for Anna. She is going to need some bright things out there on the border. Some fancy fabric for curtains or a quilt.”
Abiram nodded. “I have some things to buy to. The mall will likely be the better place to start looking.”
The waiter came and put food in front of them, there was nothing they recognized, but it looked good. “Enjoy, I think you will find it to your liking, though it is a bit spicy.”
Sara said. “Thank you.” Once he was gone she said. “Well shall we give it a try I doubt if it is anything we need to worry about. Is one of you going to tell me what it means the order was called in? Perhaps then I would know who did it.”
Zac said. “Oh it is likely the same person that was pushing food on you early. Called, means a mage placed the order. I recommend that we forget that happened. This is good, stop looking at it and eat.”
Abiram said. “I trust there was someone other than Zac tell you to eat?”
Sara nodded, her mouth full. Once she could she said. “Jack did, and the person who was on the rough also said I was to thin, but I don’t think she knows my name. seems as if I am not eating to much, I am eating to little here.”
Abiram said. “Well you are a bit thin. So do you know what school Jack works for? No doubt you are going to have a few offers.”
Zac said. “You will have choices to Abiram. Jack wont say who is with, said he can’t recruited until tomorrow afternoon. Sara eat, then we will get you to bed. No sleeping here.”
After the meal was gone the waiter was back with a carry out container. “A midnight snack for the young lady was included in the order. This will keep warm until opened.”
Sara said. “Thank you, but.”
“Enjoy elflen, I should have thought of it. You need it. Now scat we need this table.” But he was smiling, so they knew he was joking, and not up set.
Sara stood up, laughing. “If you all get your way Rebecca will be right, I will have to roll home.”
“Not hardly child. See you in the morning, just leave that in the room for the maid, and you had best eat it.”
Zac took the food and Abiram her bag and they walked her into the room. Abiram sat the bag close to the bed. “Sara go get your nightgown on. We will wait here. Zac that table there should be close enough that she can reach it with getting up.” Sara left them to arrange things to their liking and went into the bathroom to change. She was to tired to think about picking up by the time she had her night gown on and hair down. In fact she all most fell coming though the bathroom door, as she was to tied to know where her feet were. Zac caught her.
Sara mumbled as he lifted her. “Put. Can walk. Not fair. See.”
Zac said. “There is no one here to see me put you to bed. You are not even going to remember it. You are asleep.” He set her on the bed then reached up and undid her hair. “Am, is there a brush there? Don’t look at me she asleep so it wont embarrass her and she cant ask If it is not fixed she wont be able to do it in the morning without help. Not as week as her arms will be”
Abiram handed him the brush. “Do I even want to know why you know how to?”
Zac said. “In part I have helped An’s a few times, when we were young enough not to know better.” They had just fished covering her when the door opened.
Lena screamed. “What are you doing in here?”
Abiram looked at her coldly. “I am making sure my sister got into bed and was not left on the floor all night. That light shouldn’t be to bright, but if it will bother you when she turns it on perhaps you should see if you can stay with one of the others.” He turned and walked past her and the others. Who were stare at him. To say a woman was not to be trusted to take care of someone was one of the worst insults you could give them. After all it was there duty to care for a house and the people in it. He might not have said it, but the meaning was clear, or should have been.
Lena looked at the others with her. “What next? Well it could be worse I suppose. They were related to. How is she asleep this early?”
Rebecca said. “The rain make her hurt, they even take her home if a big storm hits during school. I mean right to her house. I don’t know what it is, but she can barely walk sometimes. It might be related to why she is in our year. That thing no talks about, still that was uncalled for”
Sara knew none of this or anything else until she work up in the middle of the night. There was enough light that she was able to find the lamp they had set by her bed, that she was not sure how she ended up in. She swung carefully out of bed and made her way into the bathroom. Where she got a gimps of herself and saw her hair was in a loose braid. That she knew she didn’t do. Her clothes were still in the bathroom, where she’d changed. She should knew she should pick them up, but was still not sure about bending over and was to cold to fool around.
