30533 fighting with Wane

Wane said. “You have to be joking. It was bad enough to think of you dealing with them. Dragon hides really? Do you have any idea how dangers those are to be around? They are magic beasts you can’t just go using that stuff. Raising dragons. What’s next? That is ridicules. I thought it was bad that there was a push to recognize them as human. But farming them. Inviting that evil in!” He had backed away as though he truly thought the pack was going to harm him.
Yuma looked at her father and he just shrugged, so she took a breath. “I am not too sure where to start. There is just to much to know just what to say. I don’t know how you ever got the idea that the hides were a danger or that dragons are evil. Yes they use magic, it is a part of them. They are made to keep the energy in balance. It is in the Word, as is the fact that they are intelligent. However not all animals we call dragons are the same, which likewise has evidence in the Word as well as in more recent studies.” He shook his head a bit. “I can give you a complete list of the places if you wish. More say magical beings than listing a type, but most commentaries include the Dragons in the list.” He looked at her and she surged. “I need them for my Zoology paper on animal classifications. You are welcome to read the whole paper. I do go into a bit of detail over the classes of dragons in it. See the leading researchers are mostly in agreement that there are three distinct types of them. That is three different spices of the being we call dragon. They are pushing for different names, but that is not going to be easy as it can be hard to tell the differences at this time, as not many think to look. However that is a different subject all together. It is difference you were asking about.” He was a bit red, and her father was fighting not to laugh. “If you want the full details, I can get you a copy of my paper, which includes the sources. In brief the first group contains ten to twelve verities of the North American Dragons. They are the ones with clear intelligence compatible or beyond ours. It is hard to know how much the langue differences affect the tests but the lowest came in as the same as a fourth grade, the highest was easily in the genius level. There are some they are sure would fit, but refuse to take the test. The second, and it is suspected largest set, are the ones that are compatible to bear, deer, tigers, and other wild animals. Like them some are eatable and some are not, but they do not do well in captivity the last is the farm animals, they do so well in captivity and are so brainless that the researches believe the only reason they exist off of farms is that the first group raises them for pets and possibly food. There are only a few farms that are not Outsiders raising them here, but it is growing as they get better known.”
Wane said. “I can’t see how that could even be legal! Raising those spawn around towns, letting the corrupt children. This so called scientist must be where the nonsense about forcing children to learn of the evil beings is coming from! Just how did they ever graduate with such silly notions? And they are publishing the filth. This should show you why the regulations need tightened if that kind of trash gets out there. Surely you can see now the harm it does. To believe those beasts should be treated as though they are equal to us. It is bad enough that they are out there at all. They are a simple of the sickness of the world. They are not something to embrace and study! No, there is enough having them there without forcing the young to deal with it. The boys will need it, but let the science classes cover it, in high school so others are not so mislead by such silliness.”
Yuma wasn’t such what about that had her angriest, but she didn’t stop to think. “That kind of thinking is exactly why the magical beings need to be included in the elementary lesson on the importance of the wild lands! They are needed. All of them, the magic and so called normal animals have a very important role in the balance that make this planet livable. Read your history of the times before. Look at how they messed up the natural order, how close they were to destroying the world, because they tried to control the life, not learn how to live with it. We cannot afford to make that mistake again! Yet fear like yours will cause it. Fear easily turns into hate and a need to destroy that which is feared, simply because no effort was made to understand it. That has played out far too many times in the course of human history. We will not survive another crash. I am not week and infused by the wind. I have done my research. I am not an expert and never will be. However I do know how to tell who knows their subject and who is just talking out of their ass! Being dependant on the energy that floods the world doesn’t make them evil.  In fact their being here is why that energy doesn’t Kill us. Before you say it, know that those words are from Elder Tomas the first, in his speech to the third Congress. You should read it.”
Wane said. “I have never. Just where do you get off talking to me like that. This is what comes from letting a girl run wild. Clearly you have no respect and no regard for the teaching or your elders. Saying we should embrace the evil not shun it. Just what have you been reading? You are a prime example of why limits are needed! Clearly you do not know truth from fiction!”
Yuma looked at him. She wanted to yell, or hit him, but neither of those would do any good. She had been too loud before. She took a breath and said, as evenly as she could, which wasn’t very. “Nothing was said about embracing evil. I do not know why you think I was advocating that. I am not being led by anyone. I think for myself and no one is ever going to tell me what to think or who to support. I will choose my side for myself. I am full able to research a topic and make an informed decision. Just because I do not agree with you doesn’t mean that I am being told what to believe. It just means that I believe your opinion is wrong and that you should look at the facts again. Should you wish to present me with any facts that support your view I will look at them. I am more than willing to show you the evidence that led me to the view I have. I will freely admit that my view was influenced by what I have experienced with both the Griffins and the dragons I have been around. Having spent time with them, it was clear to me that they are intelligent, even before I observed the researcher testing the griffins.” Yuma stopped before adding it was only after she was there and watching that the parents let their two oldest take the tests he had, and that they were clearly laughing at some of it. They were very protective of the young ones and seldom let the visitors see any but the two oldest. So she had been a bit surprised by the ball game that had developed, as she had expected them to call the young ones back a lot faster. The rangers would have been amazed, as only two of them had seen the youngest pair.
Wane shook his head. “You stand there and say that those beasts should be welcomed and accepted yet say you are not condoning evil. The very roots of them are evil. If not for it they would not be here. To accept them is to accept magic! There is no question of that. There is no place for any of it in a Holy nation as we are called to be. To welcome it is to call back the sin we fought to separate from!”
Samuel said. “There is the problem. You are saying that dragons are the same as a mage. Yuma is saying that they are not, that for all some are as intelligent as we are they are not human and so are not governed by the restrictions they have. The fact that they are magic by being means that they were created to use the very forces that we are forbidden to touch. Not only do the depend on it, but they are the reason it is there and is not for our use, but theirs, which was the same view that John takes in his letters, recorded in the fourteenth chapter. Yes that was one of the citations Yuma used in her paper, which I have read and I did check out a few of the works she cited. They were all ligament. I do thank you for this, it does help me see why there is a portion of the education bill that is asking for more education on the value of the wild lands and all that inhabit them. I couldn’t see why it was thought needed. Now I think I might have a better idea. However I am not so sure that it is wise to start it at a young age. They need to be able to understand the key difference between us and that requires more knowledge of magic than what a elementary student needs. There is a danger in tell them of the energy up to soon. They need to be old enough to understand that some things do not warrant closer examination. Yuma that pack will serve you well and Robert will be delighted, he was saying that he was scared as none of you had yet expressed an interest in being a carrier, but some were getting to old to handle the routes. He will be glad to put you on for the summer trip, likely one of the long ones. Of course it will depend on the school you go to, but I won’t be surprised if you are gone one month of your summer break regardless. Even if you go to Oxford, you can take that route.”
Yuma flushed a bit, she should have known he would guess, but it was a way to change the topic, and her Uncle looked a bit to close to a fit. He truly had been upset enough. This might be a slight bit safer. “I am not sure they would agree to let me, but that is what I was thinking sir. That is that I could do a rout over my breaks. I am going to ask this year, for all I don’t expect they will even consider it before next, where I will just be graduating. It is needed that Family goes, and so few are willing to, but I don’t mind the wild places and have a fair understating of them. Rez has taught me some of his people’s customs as well, and feels that I would do all right. I am not so sure about having to sit in judgment, but I will have more training before I had to do so on my own.”
Samuel smiled a bit, knowing she meant that she had expected him to fight it. Yet he had seen it coming the first time he took her to the trails. She was enchanted with the wild lands, and would take any excuse to go there. It was a chore to keep her on the trail when she was a toddler and it just got worse as she aged. It was a relief once she could carry a gun, as that helped minimize the danger. “I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he sent you out on at least a short run this summer. He truly was sounding stressed, but don’t worry I am not going to say a word about it. It will be far better if he thinks I don’t know anything. Now you had best get that pack put up, the ladies will be here soon, for all nothing was planed.” Yuma nodded and made over to the cupboard.
Martha said. “There are chips in the den and I set the cards out as well. So all is ready for the game, and of course they are coming. There is a lot to do before the Season.”
Samuel laughed. “Thank you dear, and we will do a bit of planning as well. It is good to be hosting, but it is more work as well. Have fun, and relax. I will do my best to see that Wane stays out of here.”

Yuma said. “I will try my best to not bring it up again. However I am not going to let him tell me that I am not capable of thinking for myself, no matter what the topic is. To limit roles by gender or religion is to weakling our society as whole. It is past time that such notions were set aside. No one should be force to stay home or be barred from it just because of their gender any more than some who love backing should be forced to be an accountant.”
