Library visit. we will get to day3 yet.

Samantha said. “I will try to get Moonstone out of the house. I truly wasn’t meaning to bring him home. I don’t know just what he was thinking, darting in like that. As if finding me leading Windsong was upsetting enough then that sassy bird had to come home with me. At least the he did stay in his stall.” She laughed and started in after Will. Grant said. “I think that we can count on Mr. Bird stay around, and I do think that the only Windsong didn’t try to follow was because the bird did. Yes mom we are fine out here, even with the kids having animals take to them. I expected that they would bring a few home once we were out here.” There was a pause. “No Windsong won’t be coming here he is happy in the stables, but Sam will be visiting them daily, even if it means she has to let me give her a ride to them, as well as back to the house. The manager will insist on it, and has already said that one of the hands can give her a lift back to the house if I am too busy to.” Sam moved on in smiling, then shook her head when she saw the bird up on the counter with a cookie. “Mr. Bird just what are you doing? I didn’t know that you liked houses, and I don’t think cookies are too healthy for birds. Sorry for the invasion. I hope he didn’t alarm you. I don’t know why he raced in like that.” Moonstone chirped. ‘I like cookies to and if I didn’t race in that brute would eat them all before I got mine. Though I wouldn’t mind a couple of those grapes to. Don’t worry I can go in out of Paws door. Just fun to fly over boys head, make him duck. So yes I will be. I must keep eye on you for Windsong. He has claimed you as I hoped.’ Samantha shook her head. “Let me break that up a bit so you can eat it easier. I don’t know what Mom is going to think about you being on her counter, sir. Here you want a few of these to go with your cookie? Dad said we would be getting bird food, and I had best see what they recommend for water as well. Do be good as I talk to my brother and see why he is upset. Will did Roger give you any indication why he was so worried? I didn’t think my messages would be that upsetting. Yes I made it to the stables and ended up leading a horse back into them as he had been spooked. Once I had explained why I had Windsong the stable manger of them said to just get help with the tack, but I was welcome to take one out for a ride when I felt up to it.” Will shook his head. “Come on and let me show you how to call Roger, and put the phone on speaker. These two can help answer questions about the school, as your feathered fried convinces him we are in danger of being carried of by wild birds.” They had to laugh as Moonstone puffed up and started a bit at his words. He talked her though making the call and setting the phone on speaker Roger answered on the third rind. “Will have you found her yet? What is going on out there?” Sam said. “I wasn’t lost. I am sorry I had you worried. I just went out for a walk to stables after lunch. I didn’t think my message was alarming.” Roger said. “What stable and why were you there? You tell me you are taking a creative writing class and expect me not to try and find out what you are talking about?”’ Samantha said. “Well I thought you would ask me more about my classes but I didn’t think it would mean you would be calling will about them. Just why is the writing class so upsetting? We will just be learning how to tell a good story. The text book is by Milton and includes essays from famous historical writers as well as modern writers. I don’t see why it is alarming. There is one by that Frank Aarnorld that writes those gruesome murder mysteries. Mr. Robbles has stables and horses, I am not sure how many. I am sure I only saw a small number of them. I went to get a look at them and to talk to the stable hands about possibly touching a few. I didn’t think they would be likely to let me ride any just yet. However I plan on doing so soon, as I do have permission to.” There was coughed and the bird had to chime in. “You what? What is that noise? Why do you have bird song playing? You can’t mean you are going to. it was one thing at the track, but just what?” Samantha said. “Moonstone do stop chipping in my ear. Yes you can peach on the chair if you want, but you don’t need to yell in my ear. Yes my brother is a bit alarmed at the thought of me on a horse but that is no reason to laugh at him. Sorry Roger, that is just Moonstone who felt it necessary to accompany on my walk to the stables and then come home with me and race Will for a cookie.” That set off a new round of coughing, and Grant laughed. “I am sure he will pose for Tom soon so you will be able to see him, and no doubt he will insist on appearing in a video call or ten.” There was chirping and nodded, causing laughter. Grant said. “Moonstone is nodding at that, so I can bet he will be. Yes there is a bird on the back of her chair. I was expecting the cat and thought a dog might be likely, but the bird is unexpected. However I am not going to try and convince it that it doesn’t need to be in the house. I am sure he can work the cat door anyway. Yes Samantha has permission to ride, she is just to ask for help with the tack, as some of the horses have special gear.” There was another round of laughter as the bird flew over went out the cat door then came back in “You didn’t need to show me that I was right! Sorry Roger, but her bird is proving to be a clown. Jack said that as she could handle Windsong without a problem there wasn’t a one of the horses she would have problems with so she was welcome to ride them. If I can’t give her a lift home then one of the stable hands will, as the path back to the house is likely to be longer then the one to the stables, as it is safer to by the road to get back here.” Roger said. “And Windsong would be? I fear I am getting more confused not less.” Samantha said. “Windsong is a stallion that just recently arrived here. He was to be left alone to get used to his new home. However someone decide to put tack on him. Whoever it was only had the halter on when Widsong got away, possible by stepping on the person’s foot. They think it was one they had removed just before they found Windsong with me. It is a bit confusing just how it all happened. However they didn’t know that Windsong was out of his stall at the time. I came out of the maze just in time to have him come running out of the stable at me. He saw me and stopped. I could let him do himself harm so started talking to him and slowly moving closer until he let me take the reins and get him to stables. However I had to sit just barely in the door as my leg demanded I rest it. So that is where they found us. Windsong refused to let Jack take the reins so I had to take him back to his stall, which was when Dad and Mr. Robbles turned up, and so I have permission to visit the stables as often as I want and to ride.” Roger said. “You’re right a creative writing class is a silly thing to be worried about. Just what is going on out there? You said the principle let you have free run of his books?” Samantha said. “Yes he did and in a bit we are going to go get library cards and I am hoping to find a book I have been wanting to read for more than a year as it likewise is not restricted. It is strange and an adjustment.” Roger coughed. “You think they will let you at Fishers’ really? Come on that is not likely they don’t let you read that without more background in astronomy, even excerpted.” Grant coughed and the bird chirped. Sam said. “Oh I have Fishers here, Mr. White had a copy of it and let me borrow it. no it was more the natural science book I was think of, that one on the gene mutations.” There was a lot of coughing from him, Sam winked at her father who was fighting to control his laughter and went on. “Then there should be some on the local life that has better images then what Mr. White had on hand. It is so much fun not to be limited, to be able to explore and see what I want to learn and not be limited by what a state feels is fitting for one with Adsons. Do to the number of people with it they found it to be unwise to set limits biased on it, and they also do not follow the class structure. Likely that figures into the lands here being labeled wild as much as the lack of fenced towns does. It is a change to have non-modified animals around. Real birds sound so different from those taped songs.” Roger said. “Just what is that school doing? What are your classes like Will? Are you in that writing class, and analyzing stories? Algebra three sounds more like university level then high school.” Will said. “I am taking painting, drawing, art history, business management and geometry. The plan is to go to University for a degree in art education so I am not trying to live off my artwork alone as it is near imposable to so. That algebra was over my head, I am very glad I am not expected to do it, but I am going to read some of the stories in the analyzing book if I can get it away from her long enough.” Edith said. “White Wands is just for students with the more server forms of Adsons and the classes take into account the way it changes how we see the world and so the classes are going to be a bit harder then typical high school classes. It helps to be with others that understand what you are dealing with and to have adults that have been there. Yes a number of the teachers have Adsons as well, which helps them relate to us, and show us how to translate the world we see.” Grant said. “As I just got done explain to mom they are in different schools as they have different needs. Wills school is for Arts and has less structure then the High schools out there do. Samantha’s is, as Edith said, geared for those with Adsons. It takes into account the fact that at times they must move slower then they like and rest often, that they can see patterns which let’s them learn at a faster rate. They understand that some students will need to examine odd things in order to be able to focus. Like how Sam can’t relax if there is an examined book case in the room. It is apart of how the disease affects her.” Mike said. “For me it is all about patterns, that I have to see how the desks line up with the floor tiles. It is generally done in seconds, but sometimes I have to shift something a bit or leave a room. Luckily they understand that we will need to make changes and will let us take the first part of class to work out a setting that works for all of us. It is getting better but still gives me a few problems.” Edith said. “I just have an obsession with languages. I can not leave a new one alone until I have unlocked it, which is complicated by the fact that my father is a cryptologists and a lot of codes act like languages to my brain. It is not so bad now as it was when I was younger. It would alarm him just a bit to come in and find his five year old had pulled his papers out and was in the middle of them. Luckily he never brought home any of the classified ones, but still it was a bit alarming, even knowing I wouldn’t purposely harm the papers. I was five after all.” Grant said. “I can bet that would be about as bad as it was to find Sam had climbed up a six foot ladder to get to a book that she couldn’t hold, and shouldn’t have been looking at. No five year old need to see an anatomy textbook, but it was a book and she had to examine it. Once she has read the spines she can generally let them be know, but that has only been the case for the last three years. Before then she needed to open them, and thumb though them.” Roger said. “That is so which is why it is a bit troubling to think of her out there where it seems there are no protections. I do think she would have been safer back here. I fear just what trouble she is likely to find. Those classes are not easing my fears any.” Samantha said. “It is not kingdom law that set the class restrictions, but custom. My exploring the limits of my abilities will not break the laws of the king. Yes it is not accepted for me to do so in the east, but it will not harm me to do so. In is in the law of the Kingdom that there is a place for each being, but it does agree that not all fit the structured life of the cities, that is why the lands of west are left wild. I know it is scary to you to think it, but maybe this is where my place is. I know it is likely not for you, but I do hope you will come see what it is like before determining it is unfit for everyone.” She looked at her dad hoping she hadn’t gone to far, he nodded at her. “Mom and dad say I have to have a cell so I am going to be getting one when we go to the mall. I will get the number to you so you can check on me and see I don’t get to lost on my rides. Maybe they can show me how to take pictures with the thing so I can show you a bit of the trails I find on those rides. We will be send Grandma pictures of me on a horse and in the tree house once my legs will let me climb the ladder safely. I might just have to learn how to climb a tree to really scare her, but I think the tree house will do a good job.” Roger said. “I will see about making a trip out there. My professor was talking of it as it would give an unfiltered view of the starts, so I might be able to make it work. Try not to go to wild out there. Just the mention of the tree house and untamed horse would do it, without the pictures. I am still worried, but relived to find you hadn’t been carried off. I have to go, but will do better about keeping in touch. Just try not to disappear again.” Samantha said. “I truly didn’t think that the message would alarm you. I suppose I should have told you I was going out, so you would know I wouldn’t be here to answer. I am sorry that you thought there was something wrong. I will write you tonight and let you know what books I check out. I promise no more than five.” He laughed. “I am sure little sis, at least I don’t have to carry them for you this time. By guys and thank you for calling. You had better get me that number and keep your phone on!” Grant said. “No fair! I don’t even know how to shut the thing off, so how was I to know it was off? Sorry we scared you, but all is well, even if we have a house bird and cat.” Roger laughed and ended the call. Will said. “So do you know why Tom was eating by a wolf? And did she stop talking to you again when she found out we were in fact in different schools?” Grant said. “We never made it to the wolf, and she said she would be calling tonight to talk to all of us, so I think she is still talking to us. I told her to try checking around eight her time, that I would get the computer on and waiting once we were home from the library. Yes you can leave your books out to be seen.” Tom came in. “Cool, and I need one for a book report. We are to read a fictional book, of all things. Can’t you just here them. I wonder if I can find one with a wizard or a dragon on it. I know there are some as a few of the upper kids would have them, but I was never brave enough to try and get into the fiction sections myself to see what they were. Wow you didn’t eat all the cookies, I thought they would be gone.” Mike said. “I’m not that greedy! You didn’t read fiction, so what did you do book reports on?” Moonstone chirped and flapped his wings, still on the chair behind Sam. ‘Yes you are. All I got was one little cookie!’ Tom jumped seeing the bird for the first time. “I wasn’t saying you were. I just thought Will would have hidden all the walnut ones from me. He usually does. Why is there a bird on your chair Sam? For that matter why is there a bird in the house? I am not sure how that will go over with Furry. I don’t think cats and birds get along.” Sam took and broke up another oatmeal reason cookie. “I told you cookies are not good for you. You don’t need to ball them out for eating them. Here.” She shook her head as the bird moved to the table and dived on the broken cookie. “Moon stone followed me home and raced Will in so he could steel a cookie and has shown us he can work the cat door. Jack says that he has an agreement with the stable cats so likely he will make one with Furry, if he hasn’t all ready. We were discoursed from reading any books not assigned to us, but there were some selected textbooks we were permitted to check out, though with a lot of frowning from the librarian. They were able to pass as middle class so could get some of the biographies and government adventure stories as well.” Edith said. “No wonder you want to get to the library. I can’t image being so controlled. It must be strange for you here, without those rules. I would go insane if I was so hampered. Just what are the restrictions biased on?” Olivia said. “Just why is there a bird on the table?” Will shrugged. “He is eating a cookie, for all he was told he knew it wasn’t good for him. Well there was a set of rules just for those with Adsons that were separate from the class rules. However the classes were set by the jobs your parents had and the way they fit into society, though choices made could lower the standing more. Like we are low even though Mom has a bachelors degree and dad a masters, which generally would make us at least low middle, even with dad’s degree being in the frowned upon branch of science. How ever as they refused to put Sam in a home and teach us to fear life we were lower. Like anything east it is a mess of politics. You can improve your class by wining the right to study a subject of a higher class in your senior exams. That is if you don’t have Adsons, as then you are always bound to select branches of the low class study as it isn’t safe to let you explore outside of those guide areas as your minds are easily confused by the lies that can be found in unguided study. So says the law of class separation that all the civilized cities have adopted. And as that sounds to be questioning the wisdom of the law I could be turned in and end up in a reformatory for saying it, or with labor if I was over eighteen, which is why mom looks upset.” Mike said. “And why you were so shocked that I would dare have mythic beings on my backpack. As I can bet that is likewise flaunting the law that says they do not exists. Another reason to be happy I live in the uncivilized lands where it is alright to laugh at the idea that you can control nature, or change a fact by ignoring it. The genetically altered animals might have been myths at one time, but they are now reality, and we have to learn to live with them. We can not get back the world that used to be, we have to live with the world we have and stop messing it up even more. How’s that for an antigovernment speech? And you will hear worse. Out here we are not as respectful as the wise leads wish we would be. We have a long a history of question government.” He looked at his phone. “We better run or we will miss our bus. Thanks again Will.” Grant blinked. “There’s a bus stop around here?” Mike said. “No, but as long as you are on the road the buses will stop for you. It is a better use of resources to make use of the public transportation, and then it really isn’t safe for us to drive as the seizures don’t always come with warnings. There will be maps of the bus routes at the library, and school ids double as passes. Don’t worry Sam and Ivy will see to it your kids learn their way around. Sorry, but we must run.” Grant nodded as they stood up. “Thanks again Will, see you Monday if not sooner Samantha.” Will said. “It was fun and I think it will work out well. Have a safe ride, and Edith tell your brother I will gladly answer any other questions he has, he can email them if that works.” She nodded. “I will let him know, and he might just come talk to you now that I can prove you really are willing to talk to him. He just couldn’t believe you would be willing to. You all have a nice evening, see you Monday Sam.” They waved and headed out. Olivia shook her head. “Why do I think I am better of not knowing what was going on? Tom why do I have a text messages about a wolf eating you? Did bird food get added to the shopping list? He can’t keep living on cookies, and it would be best to find a different place to feed him. Maybe there will be some perches and feed tables at the store.” Moonstone chirped and strutted on the table. “I don’t care, you don’t need to be on the table Mister, and you will need more than cookies.” She then shook her head. “If the folks weren’t convinced we were nuts they would be now.” Tom looked at her. “I was what? I have no idea. I haven’t been around any wolves or said anything about them. Wait I sent Aunt Ruth a picture of a cave, as I thought she would like to see it. However I did say it was a cave, but the ferns and stones in around the door made it look like mouth. But, well see here is the text. See I say clearly that I thought she would like to see this Cave door as it looked like a monster. I did not enter it, and won’t without lights and a compass.” Olivia looked and shook her head then showed it to Grant. “Just how did it get seen without the caption? However I do think that solves that mystery. So I think we are good to go, as long as everyone has their phones on now. And this should show you just why you need one of your own Sam. I thing Roger texted each of us, just sure you were in danger as no one was answering the house phone.” Sam said. “I still don’t know why my creative writing class is so troubling to him that he had to call me about it. Nothing about that makes much sense to me. However I can see the point of the phone. He is really going to panic when I am riding if I don’t have it, as I do want to explore the riding trails. Maybe Sam will show me where that gryphon was that Mr. Robbles said he saw. That is after I know how to take pictures on that phone.” She smiled. “Still think it is a good idea?” A course of. “Yes.” Answered her then they looked at each and laughed. Olivia said. “Just make sure you send us the pictures you all send them sop we can have some idea why you are getting eaten by wolves, or where to start looking if you aren’t home when expected. Try to tack care when exploring and don’t eat anything you don’t know what is, but we expect you all to explore, and likely you will find trouble a few times. However you are old enough to know when to yell for help and what to do when you can’t. Now come on, part of being prepared is research. I suggest you look for books on eatable plants as well as animal identification, and don’t forget a story. Shocking covers are fine, but you must read at least four chapters of the books you take so do look at more then the covers.” They stood up and Sam looked at Moonstone. “We are going into town, but I’m not going to get lost.” He chirped, and nodded. ‘See you when you get back, I will go get a snack. I know where there are some good berries. I will show you another time. When you trust me.’ Sam shook her head and looked at the others. “He has a habit of following me and I just don’t think it would go over to well if he raced into the library after me. I am hooping that means he will stay here.” Just why does it seem so much like he told me he would? I didn’t know that animals were so expressive. Maybe it is just that I haven’t been around them. Seth laughed as the bird was nodding. “I think that is indeed what he is saying, sis. Given how he is nodding. I don’t think your friend is an ordinary bird. He seems to understand a good bit more then I would expect a bird to.” Alice said as they were getting in the car. “Did he really say there was a gryphon around? I thought I saw a unicorn the other day, but I wasn’t sure. So are there still any living? I thought Iscas hunt took care of the last of the mutated animals that had out lived their creators.” Grant nodded and started the car then said. “That is what we are taught, however it seems they were wrong about the modified animals being unable to reproduce. There is unicorn blood in some of the horses and Stewart said that it is not unusually to see unicorns in the fields. Sightings of the others are not as common, but do happen. He didn’t want us to be alarmed should we encounter them. He also said that you all had been staying to close to home. That you needn’t worry about getting lost anyone you see would take time to point you in the right direction. The maze has a lot of exists, and no one has yet been trapped in it for long.” Seth said. “I thought we had been doing a good job of exploring, but I guess we were to careful not to get in the way. I will try and be seen more. I take it you found the stables alright Sam? Say I wonder if your feathered fired is part phoenix or something. He dose seem a bit smarter then a normal bird. Are there books on the changed animals? That say what properties they were found to have?” Sam nodded. “Mr. Robles said that the path to the stables is always ling in below and the one to his house in blue, but other places can be less clear. Something a bout the maze being an old experiment, but that it was safe. I plan on looking for some books on them, but I did say I would only get five books, so you might want to check to, as I must go broad this time.” Seth said. “There will be plenty of other visits sis so I think broad is best for this one. However as I have seen the building I can tell you that it is going to be harder then you think to stay to that limit. I suggest that given the limit you avoid the children’s area this time if you can.” Sam looked at him and then the car turned into a barking lot for a three story building that was larger then the school had been she blink and Grant said. “There is a café and some study rooms as well as large tables, it is not all books but there is a large collection. We will have three hours until it closes, they play a chime and blink the lights ten minutes before then so you know it is time to head to the desk, or pack up if you are using one of the study rooms. Yes I asked as I was finding out what was needed to get cards. Sam is not the only one that is going to need to be reminded they need to leave, which is why I thought this was the best time for a first visit.” Sam said. “I truly am going to need someone with me when I come here, or I will be here until they close. This is going to be fun. Yes the children’s area and most of the nonfiction will weight. I want to look at the natural science and then the work on the modified animals. I also have to get a fiction book, preferably one that Roger will recognize the name of, even if Grandmother doesn’t.” Olivia said. “We are all to get one fictional book each visit. It will do us all good to improve our imagination. The world needs creativity.” They nodded and headed in. Getting the cards was easy but decide where to look first took longer. In the end they all separated, though Will did look a bit worried as Samantha headed in the opposite direction. It was so odd to not have to worry about her going into the wrong section. The last two years they hadn’t even bothered taking her to the library as there was only one shelf she would have been permitted to look at, so it would have hurt her more to go. This would be good for her, if a bit scary for him. He shook his head and took off before she looked back and saw him watching. He didn’t want her to think he was worried, for that would make it harder on her. He needed have worried any, Sam didn’t dare look at anything but the path as the books were so tempting and if she started looking around she would never make it to the ones she had intended to look at this time. It was so hard to walk past the others, they were all asking her to look at them, to see what wonders they had to share. However by focusing on what she wanted she was able to keep walking until she reached the natural science books. She jumped as the light blinks just as picked up a big blue book with a dragon on it. Laughing a bit. “Well I guess that made my choice easier, and it lets me keep my five book limit that I was in danger of breaking.” The lady next to her said. “Good for you, I wish I had that control. I told myself that I would only get six books, yet this one makes it ten. They just keep adding more that I just have to read. That one is good, but there is ten more in that set and you will likely have to read them all once you start.” Sam smiled. “It wasn’t easy, but I managed. I do hope this is good, I have wanted to read it for years, but it was deemed unsafe out east so this is the first time I have seen more then a review of it.” She said. “I can see that, they don’t like stories out there at all, I was never so glad to finish up the year I spent at school out there. You must be a bit lost out here. The elevator is right over here and will let us out right near the desk. This place can be a maze, but you will get it figured out in a few more visits.” Sam smiled. “It is a big change, I keep waiting to get yelled at for being out of place, but I will get used to it just like I will learn the layout of the library. I think it would be far worse if my parents hadn’t taught us that we didn’t have to be scared of the world. If I was more like the majority of kids in my class I would be terrified to be here. It is a big change. I can bet you were lost out east and missed the life. It had to feel stale to you.”
