Day 7, 11765
He blinked a bit and shook his head. “I meant no harm General, I was just confused.” It was easy to tell he was, and a bout a good deal more than the fact I was from Glacer. “I fear I have been a bit out of touch so am behind on the news. Truly I am glad to hear that there is a possibility of relations with your land again.”
I smiled. “I can completely
see why it would be confusing to hear. It would have been unthinkable just a
few years ago, but there has been a lot of changes in both lands over the past
thirty years and it is past time that our relation was fixed. We have been friends
only on paper for far too long do to something that should never have went as
far as it did.”
Steven nodded. “Just
so and we are glad that it is now getting fixed. Daven that was one wild arrival.
It is good to see you again, for all it is strange that you came on your to the
games. I do hope it is not a problem that brings you home. Now then this isn’t
showing you around, and I can bet you want to know where the games are as well
as the work out grounds. Few in service can go more than a day without getting
so practice in. Just to much a habit, or so my advisors tell me, as they force
me to join them.”
Herny laughed as we
did start moving. “Now you don’t mind it a bit or you would go. However you do
have a point, I can bet a few are a bit worried so lets get this going. Now General,
as you truly have reason to wonder about it any are welcome to make use of the
train faculties, indoor or outside. I should have said so before, but forgot
that you wouldn’t know. The others here just like to pretend they need told
every time.”
Richard said. “Like
yours don’t wait when at place. How do I know that you don’t have some set for special
training? None of us want to get in the way, after all.”
Daven said. Not trouble
really, just an interesting offer. I am not to sure about, yet agree it could
be worth it. As well as an offer to establish a trade that I do think you will
like. Now I am just here to see if you would be willing to enter into talks, I
am not an ambassador just a messenger.”
Steven said. “If you
say they can be trusted then I am sure that they will be welcome, but we will
have to hear what they are offering. There are a number of troubling reports
about the shoreline lands so we do need to know a bit more before offering
welcome. We will find time to soon for new sources of trade are always being
looked for.”
Daven nodded. “That is
only fair. A number of those reports are unfounded but some are true. They are
aware of those problems and know that might make contact unwelcome at this
time, for all they do hope that you can find a away to see past the differences
in the lands. Is that an air filed over there? I thought the dragons were just
here for the games, but that looks permit.”
Herny said. “There has
been a increase in flyers among the forces we see on the border so in turn our
own has increased, with there being two biased here most of the year. Though a
lot that are here now are here for the games. I do hope that they do not still
disturb you. We have gotten so used to them that I didn’t think to warn you.”
Daven shook his head,
but looked at me. “No, I never was much troubled by them, just wanted to see
that sis wasn’t near them. Now then I don’t really think anything about find
one running a stall in the market. Those are the parts of the reports that are
true, that some of the citizens are not human. Though the dragons in Merton are
different then the ones here they still took care of my reservations about
them. I still don’t understand what drives some to seek a bond but do
understand better how unfair I was being, how wrong I was to deny the claims
that they are intelligent. For all I did have to have it beat into me, even
after one healed me. I was a bit spooked when they spoke. It was a bit of a
mess, luckly she was willing to forgive my stupedness.”
I had to smile a bit. “Did you try to put a saddle on a unicorn?”
He looked at me shocked.
“No, I was in shape to try, or I might have. I did ask why it was in the house.
However that makes me wonder if you did, and where you met one.”
I shrugged smiling a
bit. “No, but I did ask if they were sure it wouldn’t run away. Luckily they
knew that I had no idea what it was. I have spent the last to years making
contact with our neighbors, and when I was at one they had some guests come in
from Cover Beach. I just thought it was a type of pack beast, which was understandable
as it was carrying a lot of bags. I was worried that it would bolt as Ryder was
going to join us, he does tend to scare horses. They laughed and explained, not
the least upset, for all I was.”
Daven shook his head. “I
can see making the mistake but who is Ryder and why is he scary?”
Jeffrey said. “I have
yet to see a dragon that didn’t scare a horse. It would help if they didn’t
dive at them, but they are all predators. It is good to see you up and around
Highness, I had heard that you were laid up again and were unlikely to recover.
Something about a Ripper attack.”
I tensed even as
Robert move closer to me. I should have expected him to show at the worst time.
“I fear those stories of my being gravely wounded were exaggerated. It was just
some cuts on my legs. Not a Ryper this time, just a swam of flying Dartlings.
Not that they weren’t bad enough. pesky things, but there weren’t even poisonous.”
I smiled a bit and turned to Daven. “Ryder would be the dragon I am bonded to,
he will be joining us shortly. He is just waiting until we are past the buildings
here.”
Jeffery said. “That is
a relief to know. I was hoping the reports were wrong, but as you have been off
talking to the wild Valdens it is hard to know just what you might have encountered.
They are known to deal in questionable items.”
I shook my head smiling.
“The Valden have stricter rules about dealing with blood magic or demons than
even this nation does. Yes they do have items we would not consider using, but
they are not a danger. I was worried do to how they view bonds, but it turns
out that they are far more open than the records had led me to believe They accept
that the faith which forms their laws is not for everyone, and will even help
those wishing to leave get set up in a new land. They are an amazing people.”
Steven nodded. “So our
records say, but it has been years since they were heard of. We were not sure
they were still there. They were with us in the very first Darkness war, but
that was before Glacier had started. So Glacier has a treaty with them?”
I said. “Right now we
are still in talks, but there is a trade agreement and a lager deal does look
to be possible.” I relaxed as I saw Ryder waiting by the field, where the
wagons were. Then looked at Daven. “No you see better why I was worried, he is
a bit larger than most dragons in this area.”
He looked at Ryder
then at me and shook his head. “Yes I can see why you would be worried and I am
sure they fully understood as well. Really very few get upset they know that
the nonhuman races are not widely known here. When they first reached out they
were taken for more beings from Darkness and that made them reluctant to try
again. Finding it easier to be thought animals when around us than to overcome
the fear.”
Henry said. “I do hope
that we can fix that, we should not be so unfair to them. Now then this is the
area for your wagons, knowing that there were likely more dragons among yours
than the others we thought they would prefer to be closer to the trees. I hope
that is alright. The trade stalls are right over there, and there is space for
more if they wish to set their own and not use one of the empty ones. No one is
going to be upset, it is just building the stalls provide a needed project for
some teens that found trouble.”
