Day two 3366 still nothing.
Roland looked at me and shook his
head. “Well done, and yes, but it is true they would have been late if not with
you. I know how easily the can distracted. That said I am sure that it helps
our host to hear you say that you are not upset, as I know my saying you
wouldn’t be did nothing. Yet they are looking confused not relived.”
James shook his head and
winked at me, knowing I was getting upset by the act. “Father you have forgotten
the distance. They have not had any direct contact with Glacer for at least a
hundred years. “
Roland nodded. “Yes I
know but. Oh yes I see. I’m sorry. You have no idea who her Highness is. How
silly of me.” How I do wish I could strangle him about now. He knows that I do
not want the titles he is about to pin on me. It is not fair that he is using my
being here to make a stamen. For all it is likely why Greg sent me her. They
have both been pushing me to use them more. “It would of course help if she
didn’t run from her titles. At least you had head of the Red Knight, for all
the stories were a bit stretched. It is a wonder any of them reached you. All
the same that is hardly enough to know anything about her, as I should have realized.
I mean she doesn’t even have her banner shown, as she should. So let me clear
it up.” I shook my head a bit, knowing that he was just going to make it worse
not better. Why did it half to be him? He looked at me and smiled then bowed. “It
is my great honor to make know to you her Royal Highness, the Red Kight of
Glacer, Annabel Isadora Nastice ‘ne Glances, esteemed Champion of the Empire,
the General of the Air, voice of Emporium Glances the supreme lord of the
Glacer Land Empire.” My Father looked stunned, the others only slightly less
so. None looked the least relived, likely they had not expected a family
member, just an ambassador so were trying to think of the protocols for this. “Highness
allow me to make know to you the hosts. His High Majesty Steven Ingot Fisher,
ruler of the independent nation of Clavarda and its seven client states. Next
to him is Governor Natalse, who has the dubious honor of provide the accommodations
for all of this.”
I smiled and inclined my
head. “I am glad that we are able to take part this year, it has been to long
since we responded to the invitations to meet. Now do me a favor and forget all
he just told you. I truly prefer to forget the over the top titles being that
most of it came to me just by chance. Knight is a title won in the Imperial
games, those who have it are all considered the Emperor’s champions. It just
means we are skilled fighters same as your commanders. I have it because I lost
bet and so had to enter the games, Roland just has to rub it in every time he
has a chance. Please consider me just another ambassador, my tie to the family
is light and goes mostly forgotten.” I could tell I was having no luck. Just
why did Roland have to bring it up now? I know that it needed to be there so
they knew that my word would carry, but not like this. “I realize that the last
time you had contact with any of the court it was with Gervious, who felt he
hung the moon and all should bow to him. I assure that is not at all how any in
the court feel now, all of his silly protocols died with him. Don’t go trying
to work out what they say should be done, you would just confuse me. I am used
to being treated as a General, not a princess.”
Roland sighed. “Sadly it
is so, why Anna even tries to get by with staying in the bunks with the soldieries
most times. I would never have known her titles had my son not been in school
with her. It is a fight to get her to stay in the ambassadors suite each time
she comes to see me, not that she does nearly enough. Gallivanting all over as
she does, not even starting to from a unit as she should have years ago. No, I
was not meaning that you needed to change a thing. Just had to let you know
that she truly does have the right to make agreements in the emperor’s name.
She does her best to run from it, as crazy as it is. If I left it to her you
would just be left thinking she was making promise that were beyond her scope.”
I looked at him. “Now
you know full well that I never enter into any type of negation without the
other party knowing that I do have the right to act in his name as needed. I
would have seen to it in time. It was enough for them just to know that I am in
charge of these clowns. I do hope that we are not bring to many, but there was
a good deal of interest in the games. There is another Air unit and two ground
units that will be here tomorrow, with six trader wagons, and likely a few more
that are tagging along. As we had twice as many that wanted to come, the
distance has led to a lot of curiosity about your land.”
Steven said. “It is less
than we planned on, I truly wonder how you managed to keep it to just that. I
had expected it to double when we received your letter. Knowing as I do how
many turn up to go with my troops each year. There is more than room enough in
the bunks for all, but there are camp grounds set as well should they be
wanted. You are welcome, we are excited to have this chance to repair the ties
of friendship our lands once had. It has been to long since they were broken.”
Herny said. “Indeed, but
there is no reason to keep you all standing here in the sun. Come there is food
and drinks waiting, but first do let me show you the rooms. I hope that they
will do. If you will just follow me, we will go around here.” He started
walking around to the left and I had smile a bit, realize where he was leading
us. He stopped when he reached the
landing area outside the rooms. “I will leave it to you to sort who gets which,
the one there are meant for rides, so can accommodate the dragons. Those on the
other side of the court appear to be for ground troops. Now I fear there might
still be a bit of dust, but it was only right that the rooms be open as they
have been waiting for this day. This was the wing that your last ambassador occupied,
with the room in the center here being theirs, as you can see it has a room for
private meetings. The next down are the Alantain’s, as you can no doubt tell by
the colors. I do hope that this will do.”
I smiled, thinking of
the times I had escaped to the hall to look at the old paintings, for all it
was forbidden. “Thank you Governor, this is most fitting. I do hope that you
did not go to extremes for us. It is more welcome than we had any right to
expect. I do hope that the time will come when we to are opening the ambassador
set for your men in Glacer. It will be good to have them both in use. I must say
it is a relief to be someplace where I do not need to explain the bonds. I fear
I was readying the speech, so much have I been going to lands of late that do
not have bonded riders.”
Roland said. “Well you
are the one that insisted on going to the Valdens, you should have known that
would just get you sent to more. Truly you and Ryden have earned a break, so
take it. My silvers have the rooms next to you so it will all be people you
know. Now then Ben is going to see to the gear, and no augment. You just go get
out of your riding leathers then come join us and let him do his job for once.”
I shook my head a bit
but smiled. “Come now you are going to have them thinking I am worried about
them. I can see to my things, you don’t need to have one of your men see to it,
but I know I have lost that, so fine only the gear. Nothing more. I do not have
a staff and do not need to be seen taking yours. You know what Javers would say,
and he will be he for Flint.”
