the 26, turky day and net went out 50832
Dev relaxed a bit and I took my hand off his arm. “I am not
going to say anything to him. I won’t cause a fight. Now you go on and I will
get these guys back to their rooms. See you later sis.” I looked at him again
then started on down the hall. I do hope he doesn’t get the others upset, but I
do want the reports ready, and a couple reports need to be out of sight. I
don’t know just what is going on there. That reaction didn’t seem faked, but I
just don’t know. Then the flag. It is Jeffry’s signature on that list. Yet it
is all explainable. There is nothing saying that the flag didn’t change hands.
It is a forest of thorns and I need to walk with care.
I entered the room and shook my head a bit at the way they had
taken over. At least this room wasn’t used a lot, and it wasn’t my guys. In
truth this isn’t the first time one of Stevens teams had moved in. It happen
regularly, or had. I had even been put to fetching for them a few times. I went
over to them. “Jeffery will be here in a bit as he wants to see the reports
involving Keven. I take it he failed to tell his father about all of them. He
is also interested in the map.”
One of them nodded. “My Lord sent a messenger, anything pointing
to Flint and Jordan is safely put away, save for reports that list Keven. We
found a few more and you should look at them, some might need to be put up for
now.” He handed me a stack of papers. “My lord would like to see the ones I was
worried about him seeing, but I am most willing to safety to the ones you feel
ready to show him, Highness.”
I shook my head a bit and moved to a chair. “I trust him to see
why I am waiting so go ahead and let him see them. He might just find something
we missed.” I do wish I knew just why you all insist you have to use the title.
I looked at the papers and blinked. “Just where did all of these come from? They
are all this year? I thought the five I had was too many but there look to be
fifteen here.”
The research nodded. “Yes this year’s only there. Those are all
identified as different places, but we have some on a few from different people
that is those stacks there. I grouped them by the attack. The ones behind that
do not say the location but matched in details. Then these three have no
location and do not match. Will is sorting out past years on that table in case
he wants to see them. Now some are questionable in my opinion, but they all
name him.”
I said. “That sounds fine it just startled me. Thank you.”
He nodded. “There may be more. We weren’t looking to close at
names before, but are now making list to see how many that are not soldiers are
at more than one attack, and where those attacks fall. We know that some demons
can use the wounds to track former victims if those wounds were not treated
right. Yet never thought to check. Makes since that some could not know given
how long it has been since a few were active.”
I nodded. “That makes to much since and then there is the possibility
of shadowing as well. Yes it is worth looking at and seeing what can be done
about getting them checked on. Then you don’t always know what demon it was
that got you. Glacier has Fay Medics on staff, and orders are to see that any
demon injury gets checked by one of them, even if it looks healed by the time
you make it to base. Others don’t have that option and most humans find it hard
to tell if toxins linger in wounds”
Jeffery frowned. “Now then just why am learning about that here?”
I jumped a bit, as I had not noticed them enter. At least that meant I was
trusting Nancy and not checking, but still it was odd for me. “That is
something that my medical officer should have told me years ago. I need to look
into that. I fear I had never stop to think about it. This sounds like a matter
we need to talk about in meeting, I bet I am not the only one who missed it.”
Steven said. “Indeed, more so where attacks are being seen where
they haven’t been. It is a big mistake on our part to think they know what to
do for Demons wounds. Here we just treat every wound like it is infected and
then get a vet in to check, they can usually at least tell for sure what type
of demon it was. If not everything gets used before they are returned to duty.
Wasteful, but far better to be safe. However I do not know if we have been as
carful with non-service members. I will look into it.”
I said. “To true, and it could indeed have something to do with
some of the attacks. It was something they used a lot in third and fourth wars.
Yet I never even thought of it until now. Sir they have found more reports than
I had that say Keven was there. I was just going over the new ones, but here.”
I held them out, it wouldn’t do to be seen trying to hide anything. “Now Joe
said that some were questionable, but he is listed as there. For some of the
battles there were multiple reports, that is those stacks there. I understand
that another of Steven’s researchers is sorting out reports from others years
should you want to see them.”
Jeffry sat down in the chair across form and Steven took the one
next to him. “All of these? This seem a bit to unlikely. I thought the three I
knew of was odd, but this. Just how many not in service have more two a year?”
I hope this doesn’t get to bad, but not answering honestly would
be worse at this point. “I fear I had not thought to check. Others here have
started making a list. I fear that I just remember seeing Keven and Dale’s
names on the lists. I wasn’t intentionally looking for it at first, but then as
realized that I was seeing it often I did start hunting for their names in the
reports. If I was being fair I should have checked more and seen if it others
had the same.”
Jeffry shook his. “I would have done the same on finding two of
my enemies were at multiple attacks. I am not upset at this. Now if you had of
tried to make a case out of it not having checked I would have. Yet I am sure
this is not a part of what you are thinking needs to be brought before the
council.” He smiled. “I have been at this longer than you have. You know full
well that we were set to move against Glacier, so of course you have been
looking at us. That is normal, what troubles me is that you found enough to be
worried.”
I know I need to answer, but how? I can’t say too much yet.
There is more than him we need to answer. Ryder said. ‘Go with Graceland, no
more now.’
I said. “We know that a neighbor of ours has strong ties to
Darkness. It is where some of our demon problems come from, though mostly they
use blood soldiers. It could be that you do not know of those ties, yet your
Ambassador has been there at the same time as parties from Darkness on three
occasions. Still Darkness’s flag was not evident so it could be that the people
did not realize who the other guests were. Still it is troubling to us that you
maintain trade with Graceland, more so to know that they have been given an
embassy in your lands.”
Jeffry said. “I assure that they have no ties to Demons, they
are a religion ruled nation and those tenets would not allow those activities.”
I looked at him. “Have
you seen those tents or ar you just trusting what you were told?”
Jeffery said. “I have seen some of it, but have not been to the
land in person.”
Steven said. “Can you offer proof of Graceland’s partnership?”
Ryder said. ‘I would recommend going with just the religion for
now. See if that will do. There is more than we know. Steven knew the name, yet
clearly not much more.’
I called the book to me. “This is a full copy of the teachings
they are ruled by. Giving to me by one saved from soldiers who were killing
them because their young son showed a gift for healing but they were not
nobles. I could not believe that was the reason they were to be killed, so the
older man gave me this to explain the laws.” I sat it on the table then a second
next to it. “A translation of the first as I do not know if you can read it.
Just the first five pages should give you enough proof, but you are welcome to
take it and read it all.”
Jeffery said. “And we are just to take your word for it?” Steven
had picked the translation.
I shrugged. “Check the book, it is stamped and the page is water
marked. There is also a spell on it but I do not know if you can see it. I did
not do the translation, a Gled sworn scribe did, the mark is on the mark is on
it. As I said I have no way to know what you know of their dealings. I will
have more evidence for you of the tie by the end of the week. I did not think
it would be needed before then.”
Jeffery shook his head. “I find it hard to credit given what I
know, but we will see what all comes out. I do find these reports troubling and
would be interested to know if there are others that have this many encounters.
I am going to have to talk to my son about keep secrets from me. Have a good
day.” He stood up, and started to turn.
I blinked a bit. He had barely looked at the reports, clearly he
had been fishing. I hope he thinks that is the biggest thing I have on him.
Something he can easily contour just by having them give proof it isn’t so when
he brings them here. I wonder if he is slipping or is hoping to get a reaction.
Either way it is troubling. He is going to be attacking me not just Glacier.
This was an opening to a game I do not know. I just hope I did not give ground
already.
Joe said. “I have a copy of the repots here for you sir. I
thought you might like a chance to look at them closer. Now just the ones there
were multiple that listed your son, and only three accounts of the battles. I
will of course get you the rest but this was all we had time to get made.”
Jeffery blinked and took the papers. “Thank you, yes this will
indeed help, but don’t worry about the rest. What I saw was enough.” That boy
had better back down, he is calling a bit to often. Just what is he thinking?
More will notice, it is too soon.
I know he would have meant me to hear that just what is going
on? Damn it his shiled is gone. He needs to be told, but I can’t yet it is not
good. He left not knowing what I saw. I turned and relaxed a bit Steven’s shield
was there, but it did show that it had been tested recently. “Sir, do you know
someone has been trying your shield? Also I think Jeffery has a problem with
his, but he left a bit too fast for me to be sure. Yet I caught some thoughts I
don’t think he meant for me to.”
Steven said. “I did not know that mine had been, but I did think
there might be a problem with Jeffery’s I will have Henry check mine latter,
when Jeffery is there. Jeff will still blame you, but will have a bit less
cause that way.”
The door open and a man entered. “The hall is clear of ears,
Master. I will knock if that changes.” He bowed and left.
Steven said. “That was one of my sown mages, he meant magically
as well as physically. You know your father had this room spelled so no
listening device will work in it. So may I know what you are scared to tell him
about Jeffery? The more I know the better I can help you when it comes out.” He
looked at me. “Yes I said your father. I do not know why you are letting him
get by with it, but that is not business. I would however like to know how much
trouble we are in. Is it more than Flint and Jordan?”
I said. “Those are the only two that we have concerns about, and
there is nothing concrete. Your guys will get the reports they put up. Then
there are pictures of a few parties that leave Darkness and end up at their palace,
but we can’t prove that they know where they came from. Nor that the Rulers
know of the wagons that leave their land and enter Darkness. Yet, well they
both have dealings with Graceland and I do have proof of what they are, both
historically and modern. Then there is another item that recently came up that
is troubling.” The reports were set on the table he started looking at them. I
stood up and went to the other table and got out the photos. “Archer can you
bring a print of Clamtown over?”
He did so smiling a bit. “Your father had a couple sent to your
room early, said he knew you would never tell me you were to take them. I take
it you know a bit more about it?”
