21034 restured and lunch ate supper planes. Hits of evil laid at last.
John said. “Good you realized that it did need to be dealt with. That is a relief. I am glad that I don’t have to explain that someone who is on a fist name base with an Emperor should see that they are introduced to the Court. Even if half of them are going to choke from laughing. Then there will be the told you so to deal with. Do you have a dress?” He looked at Jasper.
Kat said. “Very good. Before you ask, twice at school his son and I shared a bed. However it was nothing more than lust for either of us and we knew it. I’m passing on the dress for the presentation, and going Military The Coronation is soon enough for the gowns. I need to know the number of balls and events I have to be at. I didn’t pack ball gowns and am sure I don’t have enough formals. I thought they could be sent later. I have to write Seal and get him to pick some up. I can’t wear anything local this time. For all it means glitter.”
Jasper said. “They will want you at all of them, classes are canceled for two weeks. Mom has eight ball gowns and fourteen party dress, twenty day dress, all new, for each of my sisters. I would say that is the least you need. I don’t care if you are with someone. It isn’t going to change how I feel. Yes I have had a few, but. It just couldn’t last. No matter that you told me to move on in that one pitifully excuse of a letter. I did try, but I love you, and nothing is changing how I feel.”
Kat took a breath, this was what she had feared, what she had expected. She didn’t want to do this, but all the same. “Love I meant everything I told you that day. I can be what you need. I am not good for. You have to let me go. My life is not going to lead to places you want to be. As true as it was then, it is more so now. You were there when I took lessons from Mike on the Shellen laws. Mine are harsher. You are not fit to pass, that leaves but one role.” She could see that he didn’t believe her. “Can you go more than two rounds with John yet? Now then know that John could barley rank in my house, for all his skill. That is what it means to be the Commander of the Emperor’s primer league.”
Jasper said. “I know what you said and what you want, but I love you. I know what he said Alice made sure I understood. I will not force your hand, but I my feelings for you have not changed.”
Robbie looked at them for a bit. “He told us that you had told him it was over. I take it there was a bit more. Still it is between you two so I should not say anything. All the same I will remind you of all the times John was mopping because Petter sent him away do to the title, and what you said to him the last time. For all it will be a servants life, not a title, is it anymore your right to make the choice?”
Kat said. “I am just telling him what I want. He has the power unless he has none. I don’t want him to give his life up, but I can’t stop it. Only ask him not to. It is not just his life that will be affected, I feel it is only fit that I say what I want. If it was but a title. He would be giving up his life. To be bound to me, but spell and soul.” He would be come not but a Changlings plaything. That I do not want for him, for any of. That is what I am here to prevent. Yet that I cannot say. I need to, soon. The hints of what I am are not enough.
Jasper said. “I know, I understood why you asking. I suspected it before, but when you left and for all Mark said you did not go to them. Well I knew what he wasn’t saying to us. Yes I went to him after your letters and asked him if he could say if you were at Shell, the others asked Healn about Sheves, but I knew that you wouldn’t go there. That they didn’t have the lessons you needed. They are spell mages, not energy after all. It was the lines that were calling you, that you couldn’t find a teacher for here. After all I spent more than a few nights next to you, under the moons light. I will not force you, I will not say anything to those bond to you, but here I will. I love you, I want you for all being with you would mean I am scrubbing floors and putting up tents, that I would seldom be in.”
Petter said. “John do you know what he is talking about? What Shell is?”
John said. “I was in the briefing, Love. I had the reports before you did. We started getting reports of them three years ago and are still trying to find out if they are a danger to us. A unit of theirs took out an Akalend city across the break. Just ran it over, and there was a full legion of the Black guard there. They just rolled over them. A force of ours the size of the Shell unit would not have stood a chance. Yet that was the first we heard of them. They have never spoken to us so.”
Kat said. “Letting you see the move was a test. The increase of trade offers with lands on the other side mean you passed it. More needs to be learned before a formal approach is made. Changlins are used to being judged by those here on looks and so even those that can hid are fearful of reaching out. Most of Shellins can not hide. So they move slow in making contact with Humans. Trade is done first using thats that can fully hide then slowly those that show their difference join the trips. To see how they are greeted. They do not want to be taken as the evil, but know that many distrust all outside. Yet the real evil is there and you will need help should it look your way. So they test, and eventually contact happens with those that will turn away the evil not strengthen it.” She looked at her plate to find it was empty. “I should go get my books I guess. To think I graduate from one school just to enter another. Petter you had best warn your dad, don’t need him laughing as well. And John, see to his guards. Akalend will have left spies, so the reactions will be reported. They need to be on point.”
John nodded. “Don’t worry, I have a meeting with Wills in an hour and will see he is told. I am trying to find another to take the guard detail, for I can’t keep running it when I am one being guard. However it is difficult. The guards will be sharp. The those on the stand will be on point. We are taking the visit as a threat, for all it was only offers of friendship. We know our history and know that there is nothing there but rot. However they are strong in numbers and might. So we welcome them, and smile, but watch for the knife and pray we see it in time.”
Kat said. “You are going to find flaws in any, you are to close. Will you accept someone from outside your Guards, on my word? I will tell you flat out they are not human, for all the pass.”
John said. “Of course I will, I would ask you if it was possible so if will put someone forth it will be a refile. I didn’t want to put you on the spot, more so now. However if you are willing to sponsor a person I will gladly welcome them. I trust your judgment, know that you would not offer anyone not fit. They will have to pass Wills, but you know he trusts you. I think he will be relived.”
Kat said. “She was raised by assassins, and could take you out before you saw her move. Court is not something she willing enters, but in this case she will come and take the post until she finds another that can do the job. It will be a few weeks, but I will bring her to you. She will cause upset and will insist on changes Your guards were not set with an assassins eyes, there are holes you don’t realize.”
John said. “We have been trying, but we have no guild here, and never knowingly hired any with those skills, but as Akalend stirs we realize the mistake we made in not. I do think that will just make her more welcome. I know you don’t want to cause problems. Yet. How much did they know? Why did you leave that night? There is more than we were told and I would like to know what the kept. Other than that you were here. They knew before I told them.”
Kat closed her eyes, then after a bit nodded. “You are owed. There is a lot of pain and anger. I was young and dumb in the ways of the young. Not that it excuse my actions. Just know that you are only getting one side, and anger clouds my view. I do not know how many of my letters were received and read, so keep that in mind. They could well not know all I said. That said, come to my place tonight and I will tell you. I am in the apartment I said was mine when it was built.”
Petter said. “We will bring supper and be there at five. Vin you can just walk over with Rob, as I bet you will have a list of questions from your mom by then.”
Vin nodded. “And half of them will be about why she left and what they failed to say. She will of course ask them all when she is here bit will expect me to get some answers before then.”
John nodded. “Rob they know Vin is here, so they should expect the birds. I don’t recommend warning them. It wont go well. Trust me, you are best off not going there for a few days. If I didn’t have to, but we do have meetings. I am going to have to have the guards get the books as it is. See you tonight. If you don’t feel up to the book store, give Tom your list, and I will bring your books with me.”
Kat said. “I can get them, thank you. I just needed a break. Not being armed makes it harder to be in crowds. I am doing better, but it still makes me jump. I need to get with Will and see if there is a way I can openly carry without forcing him to let other ambassadors do so.”
Petter said. “I think there is past ambassador that had passed the Guard test. I will get Higgins on it. If not, then he will be able to find something that can be used. After all you have passed the test.” He stood up. “Now remember we are bring the food.” He looked at her then at Jasper. “It is not just the crowds that is getting to you. I know that look, from the other times you were fighting.”
Kat shook her head. “I have an appoint of my own, now get before my brother turns even redder.”
Jasper said. “You don’t bring that up in front of siblings! You know better than that. Hell you yelled at me for telling John to take walk last night as Levie was there.” Kat laughed, and then harder as Rob and Vin were clearly confused. “Go on before you are late. We still have to get our books so will go with her. See you tonight. And guys you don’t need an explanation.” They left and the others stood up.
Kat said. “I will be fine, truly. Yes I am bit tenses, but over all it hasn’t been as bad as I expected it to be. Some of it is being on this side again. I am more aware of the difference now. It won’t make me ill, but the energy here tingles. It is going to cause changes when the next shift happens. More will be able to take crossing once they have recovered.” They looked at her she shrugged. “I could always hear it, just didn’t understand what it was telling me. Now I do. I needed the lessons.”
