shoping is done, but low wordding. 12187
Kat said. “I can see the weapon better. The barrier is feared by people on both sides. There were clothes bedding, books and other stuff. It was just the paper that was way out there. For all there is a lot that I don’t need, I could find the reason for it. However that, I just can’t. I will show you how the table works after lunch, but now lets go eat before it is cold.”
True to her word after the food was gone Kat went to the table and turned it so the waves started and the dots of the ships showed, with some blinking at the edges. “The blinking lights means that one is beyond the edges here. The table could only show so much and still have detail enough to be useful. Still it is nice to have. If any of those were running into problems there were be a red glow to them. The green is on the set course, blue is off normal routes and yellows are exploring. There is a lot out there that hasn’t been seen since the Dragons ruled. You have seen some maps from that time, I am sure. So know they can’t be trusted now, but they tell us there is more out there to find.” We will find them. We are getting more mapped daily. The water ways are moving a bit faster but the land is getting there two as new ways to travail it are learned. I do think that we have some details of your content that you do not, for you just stay mainly to the this side of the break. However, it could be that those maps were just kept from me. After all I was a child and so limited.
Beth said. “This is amazingly detailed. The one I have seen showed indications of currants and storm but only near the ships. Yours shows them where you have none.”
Kat said. “It is doing that because it has connections to other trackers and those do have ships there. However those ties are not as reliable as the ones to the ships. Still less boats have been lost to storms since the way to share ties was found. It is still buggy, soon as they are fixed and the spell fully safe then there will spelled ocean maps offered to all captions. The more ships that will carry one the better it will do. Yes, all, not just local. Likely a few will make it into the markets here.”
Dale said. “I know a lot that want better maps. Just having the coast will help. There is a lot that is lost to us out there, just from the bits in the ruins we have explored we can see that. To think they have been sitting there waiting, if only. Sorry, it is an old complaint. We left the ruins largely untouched for so long yet there is so much there that we can use, so much that would have helped.”
Kat nodded. “However at least they are being opened now. Facts are at last slowly overcoming the myths and fear. Yes it would be nice if it hadn’t taken so long but at least it is happening. They were a bit faster in the south, and so we are ahead in some ways. As we get to know each other more will be shared, but so much can be used in ways no one wants so trust needs to be found first. Governments are slower than academics, but it will happen.” He looked at her, she shrugged. “You saw my books. Archeology had to become a hobby, but that doesn’t change my love of the past. I understand the frustration. Now if you want to borrow a couple of books go right ahead. I can bet that you want the one on Colemen at least.”
Dale nodded. “And Webber. I have been trying to get a copy of his journals for years, but they are not in print here and seldom come up for sale.”
Kat nodded. “Go right ahead, just know that the journals are incomplete. I couldn’t get a good copy of them. Most of what I have are his writing about other explorers.”
He smiled. “Thank you, I will just get them and get out of the way. I am keeping the two of you from your shopping trip. Thank you again.” He went and got them.
Kat said. “Just bring them back, and see what you find to read after them. I am sorry to not let you look more this time, but I do need to get a few things before the market, and tomorrow is tied up with registration.
Dale nodded. “I understand, and thank you. Come on, we need to let them go or there won’t be any bread made tomorrow.” That got them moving.
The shopping went fine, with Beth there to help Kat was able to learn about all the new stores and it was fun to here what she had to say about the ones she knew. Beth said. “Now most locals will go to Coldfish for meats and spices. However they are partial to locals and are against expanding trade across the border so you are going to be better off going to Flint’s for meat and waiting tell market for most of your spices. They have never raised a price on me, but it was clear they didn’t want me in there. So I do my best not to enter.”
Kat nodded. “I was wondering if they had changed any as I saw the sign was down. Must just be out of favor to be openly opposed to the trade again.” Beth looked at her and she shrugged. “Those are the relives that run a store. I do need to talk to them, but not yet. I will give John time to tell them first. That might help. Or might not. It is hard to know what is best there.”
Beth looked at her wondering just what to say. Just how closely related were they? “One of their boys does deliveries for Flints. And where you want bulk he will likely be given the task.”
Kat smiled a bit. “That is fine, it won’t hurt a thing. Just mean that John will have back up when he tells them.”
Beth said. “In that case here we are.” She opened the door and they went in. They got the small items then wet to the counter.
Levie said. “Flour and sugar to be delivered Mrs. Lerader?”
Beth nodded. “Am I that predictable?” Yes, thank you.”
He said. “I thought it was time you came after them, now I can bring the rest with it. Are you sure you don’t want two roasts? I know market is close but this is boneless and is a dollar less than the folks have it, so you know thats a buy”
Beth said. “I didn’t see it was boneless in that case I had best have two more. Boneless roast are hard to find here.”
Levie nodded. “I will get them rang up and bring them with the rest.” He rang her up and she moved aside for Kat, who was doing her best not to laugh. “No need to try and hid your laughter. And I am quite right. My folks are known for their low prices on meat, it is seldom any under sale them, Ma’am. So if you like a good pork roast I suggest you get a couple.”
Kat said. “And just what would they think of your pushing them that way? That said I have two, and that will do. I am more used to buffalo and deer, but that I am unlikely to find here. Lamb at least I will be able to get at the market.”
Levie blinked. “Deer meet we have at times and there is likely to be some at the market as well. I have no idea what buffalo is. So that leads me to ask where you are from? For all that is a bit rude.”
Kat said. “Home is a town that isn’t on your maps, so will go with Cailm’s Port, as it at least you are likely to have some idea where is.”
He shook his head. “You are a long ways from home then. So will this be everything?”
Kat said. “I need flour and sugar deliver as well. I am in 640 of the Tower.”
Levie laughed. “Of course, and congrats. So are you taking your place at Scholars or going for the guard?”
Kat shook her head. “I am enrolled at Scholars, so I guess that would be the answer. For all I am not sure what place it is you thought I had there.”
Levie said. “Are you going to try and say you didn’t have the letter from them before you left? Now then I can just bring yours with the deliveries, and here is the amount.”
Kat said. “No I had the letter admitting me, but there was another offer I took in its place. I have these, but thank you for offering, you will have enough to bring as it is.”
Levie shrugged. “Then we will see you in a hour, if that will work for both of you?”
Beth said. “That is fine for me. There is no rush just as long as it gets delivered tonight.”
Kat nodded. “That works well, see you when you get there. I will see if I can find a picture of a buffalo so you can see what they are. We real don’t have that many pigs.”
Levie said. “All right then, see you later ladies.”
Kat wondered just what the folks would say when he told them. That had to be why he wasn’t just taking the items now, given the look his friend had when he said that. Still no harm in it. Beth waited until they were down the road. “So that is how it is. Well when you need a spice or a cut of meat let me know and I will pick it up for you. I am sorry it is that way.”
Kat said. “To be fair I don’t know what they think. I left home one night and for all I sent a letter to them every month I never told them how to reach me. I wanted to let them know I was alive, but I didn’t want to know what they had to say. I don’t know how many of the letters were read, but I sent them. I have a lot to answer for. My actions the last years caused a lot of pain. There were better ways to have handled myself.”
Beth said. “They could have asked those that delivered a message, or sent one back on the bird. Yes you handled it badly, but you were not the only one. I hope it works out better than either of expect it to.”
Kat said. “It is hard to say, a lot can change in five years. I know I am not the same person I was. I just hope they can see past their fear.”
