Giiving gifts 45621
Herb shook his head. “Good luck with that. I bet a few are going to want to know and then will be asking you for details of that attack. I don’t think they believe what the ambassador said. Someone flew across the stage and tacked the Emperor just before the knife hit him.”
Kat said. “I didn’t fly, just gave a running leap. The assassin and I reached him at about the same time. His knife went in my side, my claws got his neck.” He looked at her. “Yes claws. I half changed as I moved, it was the only way to cross the stage fast enough. That should tell you why I have not and will not be at the house. Dad did speak to me in the market, mostly out of fear of what Rob was having me get him. Still it is something. I was overreacting when I left. There was a better way to solve the issues then just storming off. I could have tried more to talk to them or gotten others to try. I should have at least attempted to, not just run off. It was a foolish thing to do and I am just lucky that I wasn’t hurt. I should have at least stayed to the plan I had, not ran blindly. However I was to angry to think of anything but getting out of there,”
Herb shook his head and started to the door. “We will talk more, but now I need to get. It won’t do to be walking together this time, but after this we can. It will be fine. See you in a bit, and that is perfect. Nice touch to remind them that you are a member of our guard as well.” She was left looking after him, wondering just what sort of trouble she had just caused.
She waited a bit, as he was right it wouldn’t look good if they arrived to close together. They were members of this Empire, so they should not be talking to lands that the Empire had not welcomed talks from. For all it was hard at times to remember that it was an Empire. Decided it had been long enough she picked up the basket of gifts and started out, not trying to get noticed, but not hiding. The more that saw her the less fear there would be when there were others seen in the uniform, as would happen once there was more travel and trade. I just hope that Petter and John can keep their faces straight when I am introduced. It is going to be a bit rough on them. The uniform alone would have been enough, but the titles would really get them. After all she had refused to take a rank post here, had even refused to take the oath for all she had often out on a uniform and filled in. Or a few times used it to get into talks she wanted to hear, but shouldn’t have. Not that his Majesty ever did more than wink at any of them when they slipped in.
She got to the gate and handed the basket to Heather. “Just a few things, most of the gifts will be for the Coronation, but it would be wrong to have something to show.”
Gaven nodded. “I was hopping they had been sent to you as I had receive nothing. For all it should have come to me, where you don’t have a servant here yet. You are going to stand out, but that is what we need. I know you don’t like the shows, but.”
Kat nodded. “Titles must be used. More so now. It needs to be clear just who I am. As it is right now they are expecting me not just to be at the Coronation, but to take part. I don’t mind, but they need to realize how it is going to look.”
Gaven smiled. “His Majesty is going to love that. He wants the ties to be strong before the shift, in case we have to move fast.” Kat nodded, and she did see that, yet still it was only right that they had warning. “John and you are clearly family so it will be easily explained, yet the idea will be there. I do agree they need to know your titles first, but I do hope that he still wants it. Now then take a breath and smile, it will be over soon. You have dose this enough to know that after this the show is easier to handle.”
Kat smiled a bit and nodded as they started walking. It was strange to be going to the main doors of the audience chamber, for she had always used the back doors. One of the guards winked at her, the other shook his head a bit as he looked her over. Clearly wanting to say something, but kept from it. A horn sounded as they entered and silence fell as they walked to the throne, stopping the traditional twenty paces from it.
Gaven bowed. “Sire, thank you for agree to see me this day. We have just dried the ink on the agreements between out lands and yet I dare ask you to let me bring another before for you. I am grateful that you show such trust in my word. It is my honor to make known to you an Ambassador from my own land Empirical Court, now widely as the Nighlin Empire, founded in times now forgotten. Lord Kat Wildstone, Black Knight of Nightling Empire, Lady of Forest, Emperor’s Champion, Voice of Emperor Marckause Stonhinge, Wingsister of Emperor BlackFire of Sky Range.” Kat took a step forward and offered a slight bow, that of one leader to another, causing a ripple. “Lord Wildstone, it is my honor to make know to you Emperor Douglass Schalor, the High Ruler of the Colina Empirical Federation.”
Kat said. “Thank you Ambassador Gaven, I am sorry to have to test a new alliances this. I know that it is causing some distress, for all you have of us are rumors. Our lands are separated by more than the Ocean, which We regret and hope to change. It is sad that Lands that once viewed each other as brothers are now strangers. We hope that the old ties can be restored, that we will once again be bound by ties of friendship and trust. We long for the day when those of both lands travel and trade freely.” That got a few blinks and Doug was looking puzzled. “In honor of what is hoped to be renew ties, I offer you a copy of the treaty that the old Lands had. They passed with Split and we were both reborn, but we hope that the old can server as a foundation.” Heather had the basket open so Kat could get the papers out. She handed them to the guard who all most checked them before giving them to Doug.
Doug said. “Don’t frown so, they of course are going to trust you. After all you have stood in there yourself. Thank you for this and trust me you are most welcome. We have been wanting to approach your court but the distance made it hard. Any coming from your court would be most welcome, that it is one that served me is sure sign that there will be friendship between our lands. Gifts were not need, yet you have a large basket there. When just this would have done. We value all records of the past and this is new. We have evidence of travel and trade but not of a Treaty. Yes word of an Ambassador cause some concern as we knew not what caused it, but we welcome the offer of friendship as well as the trade. I do indeed think this document can server as a foundation for ties between our lands.”
Kat said. “It would not be right to come to talk of trade and not give some ideas of what we can offer. First let me give you some roughly done live maps. There is a better one coming, but these will let you see that we do not intend to hide them. The old world used tech to track storms, we lost that ability but are finding a new way.” She took one of the maps out and activated it. “Like I said there is a better one coming, this one is incomplete, but it gives you an idea. So far we are not doing to well on the land storms as we are with sea.” Doug and tow of the others stood up and came over, ignoring protocol. “There are complete sea charts as well. Land maps are waiting for now. We need to know each other better before it will be found safe to share more than the coast.”
Douglas said. “This is flawed? It can’t be. Groger?”
He said. “It is better than any I have. We haven’t seen half of these lands.”
Kat said. “If you compare it to the charts you will see there are islands missing or moved and some coves are wrong. Then more is wrong with the actions. There are areas were it shows the currents ruining in odd directions. Some are right, but others it is just a mistake in the spell. The storms are also less defended in this one then in the better maps. Truly it is not fit, but I wanted you to have a sample. Is there a place we can lay them out?”
Douglas nodded. “Yes right over here, of course that would be better. I just wasn’t thinking. This is amazing.” He led them over to able, Kat spread the first map out then a second chart next to it.
Kat said. “Now you can see better what I mean. There are more copies of the charts here.” She put them on the table. “These are not spelled, but there will be some coming that are. We are hoping you will find it fit that some of your ships carry them. Not only will they keep them update of the weather, they are how we are tracking the storms. It is based of the boat tracking spells. As you know they could say if the boat was in a storm, so the inventor just built on that. She said that the hardest part was finding away to get all the maps to talk to each other. Once that was done the rest just fell into place.”
Groger said. “I don’t spouse that there is a way too learn how she got the spell to send back such detail. We can get hints of the size of the storm, but not more that wind speed.”
Kat said. “Spells are considered trade items, so that I can’t share. However I have here three copies of her paper, that includes contact information.” She handed them over. “We knew that the maps would be welcome, and there are more coming. Like I said at this time it is only coastlines that we can offer. It is not to keep secrets but to protect the rights of the others lands. You will receive a full map of the empire lands, but the others we will share without their permission, just we do not give them the maps we have of yours, for all it is flawed.” With that she offered it. “Truly it is bad for the area behind the barrier. However they have done better at mapping the land outside so I thought you might like it. Then there is cloth, beads and some art. Oh and books on the uses of the magic changed plants. I thought that Millicent might enjoy. Some of the plants are easily found here.” She sat them on the table near the maps.
Doug shook his head. “Come look at them, I told you that we weren’t going to worry about formally after the first and I meant it. You know that she has things in here tailed to each of you.”
Kat said. “I fear most of the formal gifts will arrive latter, this is but a poor sample of what was intended. There are some here, that are a bit strange to give at a presentation, for they are not for you. I do hope that you will forgive this breach, but I have gifts here from our Crown Prince for Petter and Johnathon.”
Doug said. “Come now, I meant you to when I said there was no need for formality. We are all friends here and if a few of the councilors want to fake outrage, let them. More are just waiting to ask you a dozen question.”
Kat smiled and relaxed. “It is all true, just the same. This is far less than I should have, for it is mostly items I had with me for you. As to these last two. After I was reminded of the Coronation I wrote to an old classmate of mine, asking if her would be kind enough to pick up some clothes for Petter and John, knowing they would be fighting about them.”
Petter shook his head. “Come on, that’s not fair. You know that means we have to wear them, doing it this way.” He was smiling. “I don’t see what is wrong with the clothes we have.”
John said. “I told you sis would get back at us for forcing her in to a gown. Yet you said it would be fine, that she couldn’t do to much until after it was over. Now you see I was right! She is going to have us in glitter! Come on and show us, Kat.”
Kat said. “I didn’t bring the ones from me today, I didn’t think it was the right time, but yes there is a bit of glitter. The ones here I have not seen myself. They are as I said from the Crown Prince. I didn’t intend for Cougar to show the letter to Graven, but he did so. And so Graven took it open himself to help. He said that he well remember his own Coronation and the uncomfortable robes that tradition demanded be worn. He was sure that there was such here, and he would not seek to interfere with it, but heaving something comfortable to put on after would help so to that end he sends these. Mind you have no idea how far after he meant. For all there was a note added saying yest they were fine to open in public.”
