39039 and the end of a chapter so good time to post.
June looked at him oddly. “I am seeing that, but I don’t understand why she does. Just why do the bonds scare her so much? She stopped talking when she remembered I was here, but there was a lot of hurt there. Clearly it is something she doesn’t want to say, but is it something that needs to be said?”
Albert closed his eyes for a bit then nodded. “Most you could learn with a web search, but Jade was trying not to upset Fred to much as well as she doesn’t like to talk about it. Yet you should know, as she will slip a bit more as the bonds set. For all we will stay at the base the first days because of that.”
Thon said. “They don’t know? She was there and. Just.”
Albert said. “They knew nothing about her being kidnapped. She told them that she was taken and kept locked up. There is a more to it, but she knew that Fred felt she had said to much. Yet you will hear it and need to know it can be talked about. She was taken off world. We still are unsure just who was running the operation, but there were children from all over, some from races we thought died in a ancient war that distorted a lot of planets, and poisoned more. Few were alive when we found them, some died shortly after. It was. We will never know all they did, all the ways the children were changed. It wasn’t the same for any of them. Well some was, because some was caused by the toxins in the air, but there was others in the rooms and there was a mental component. For example Jade never had any lessons in piloting or navigation, but she can make jumps that few will try. She just knows when it is right. There are of course problems as well, she is good at hiding them, but sometimes she has to be reminded of herself. That is what the bonds will fix, once she lets them. She is mad that they are needed, and upset that she couldn’t stop them from forming. Glade and I are already tied to her, less than we will be, but enough that it has be finished. No one is sure just how she has put it off this long really. We were not to touch, but ignored that, needing her for all we were to young to be making a tie. She was fighting to remember what breathing was, what a body was. Her mind was searching for what ever it had been listening to. Looking for the thing that had been instructing the changes, that had taken her over. They were helping in a safe way, but well we knew it was to slow, that it was causing pain that didn’t need to be caused. So we did what we told not to. Glade was first, he had a lot of experience with mind melding as it is common among his people. So he felt safe to let her take him deeply. I kept it lighter, but all the same we knew that we were seeing ties form. Jade blames herself for it, never mind it was our choice. Once she could she started trying to brake the bond. It troubles her that it is there and that she needs it. She fled because she got sick and reached for me, opening the connection she had shut down. Just for a few minuets, but that was to much to her. No matter what I tried to show her. At least she is admitting it now, and once it is done it will be taken care of.” He smiled a bit and relaxed. “She isn’t holding back much, thank goodness. That will keep Henry from baiting her later. It is good you told her, but she was already on edge and only half dealt with it.”
Thonblood nodded. “That is why it is Robert, he will bait her if she tries to stop. Henry can only push so far. He is doing good, but can only reach so far above him. He knows his place, as informal as is. Now she will be late getting up, and won’t be doing much more than sitting. She was trying to hide just how she was doing. It won’t work, she will rest, but the day will be enough to see she is ready for a scouting run. I will have guys there and they will know if she needs to sit. You don’t need to worry about it.”
Albert said. “She won’t take on more than she can safely do on the ship. It is just on the ground that she forgets there are limits. It is easier to get her to take care of her self in space, but she needs to be connected here first or it will make her ill to return.” Thon frowned a bit, likely working out the routes that they would be doing. “Two weeks at a time is the most it is safe for her to be on a ship, but with luck the bonds will make it easier to make the switch so she can go longer without getting ill. If not we will just have to see that she lands for a few hours every few days, that will work. She will still be tired the first two days, then will get back up. The Lightwings will let her after all. It is not that hard to get a Super in to a stable orbit, we have done a few survey runs on Mettal.”
He nodded a bit. “Yes that will do. You will likely have to be out there a lot, so as long as just time on the ground will work. Of course some depends on the ship, but yes that can be made to work.” Al looked at him. “Yes, I will be in Command, if it is needed. Now go on, you need to be seen. I am sure there are a few that will be happy to tease you a bit.” Al laughed, but took the hint and left him to talk to June, and likely yell at Fred a bit. It was easy to see that he was not happy that he put her at such risk, even though there was need of it.
Jade did indeed spend most of the day sitting, as one of the boys was always next to her just to see that she had little need to get up, and Thon was seeing to it that she let them tend her. Reminding her that it would have to be this way, that she would have to let her boy see to her. For all that made her grumble more, as did the way Henry was finding reasons to kiss her, trying to get her to take one them back to her room. Never mind it was late when they left it. All the same she was looking a lot better the next morning.
