Doing better. Might just mange to catch up yet. we will see. 12640
“A better tape could be useful, but I can bet that does lead to mess. Still it is a good use of their time.” She shook her head. “Much better than making ramps to jump bikes, which is what mine were doing when I left them. So that is good, then we just need to know what to expect here. How far off are we?”
The man smiled. “Not that far at all, we just need to angle a slight bit here as there are burrowing beings in this area that make it dangerous for wagons. Those mean that the trail we take will be a bit twisty. The ground is generally safe to walk on, but anything heavy can cause it to collapse. We are not sure why that is, but it is clearly deliberate. They are migratory, and this is the second time we had a chancre to observe there actions. We were told of them when finding a place to build so are safely out of their area.” He laid out the route. “It will be late when we get there, but there will be a real shelter waiting and lights for this last bit of trail, so far better to go a bit after dark then camp close to shelter.” They nodded. “Now you will have time to meet with the folks there about how best to go when leaving but now we will try this, given you are looking to go a bit further west then start swinging back, then just this slight change to what you had. Now there is one place on the way back that I would like to see, as the path here has us in the area. The rest you are hitting all the ruins I was hoping for. Just right here there should be a big city, if the records I found are right. I do not know for sure as I have found nothing recent, but it is there in old reports. Angles Falls, is what it said.”
Alice said. “I read of that but could not place it. It could be worth it. They were said to have had a hydro plant that powered three towns. That is one area all of us are to to recover knowledge in. So if even half the reports are true it would pay for the trip. However there are a few expedition that seem to have vanished in that area. It can’t be sure, of course, but three sent reports from about here.” She pointed at the map. “That were heading this way, and nothing more was heard from them. Perhaps a scout sent first, then see? And um, how many armed members will we be losing at the station?”
Jade said. “The ones now will stay me, you will have same number to see settled lands. May more there. Will know leave. Reports?”
Alice said. “Good. I don’t have them with me but can get you copies of them in Sliver. The archive there will have them waiting on me. I have asked for six copies any maps others have entered of the ares the route will cover as well as the reports about the area that are in English. I don’t know how much help they are but thought it was worth looking into.”
Dr. Homles nodded. “That it is, and thank you. I failed to even consider that they would have any reports. Which is foolish of me. I should have asked when seeking guides. That is something I must see is included in the papers. What is needed to get access to the archive?”
Alice said. “As long as you listen to the staff you would be allowed to see what is in the general collection. If you show respect then if you make a request for a certain are they might being you some from the collections that are not open. Once they are sure that you will not be seeking to use anything there fore harm. Not all that is found should be widely known, as you know. I will point out the building to you. We have a day there, so you might want to take a look.”
He nodded. “Indeed and it is enough that they will let outsiders see the general collection. Even just that will be surprising I am sure. I might just have to have a quick look if there is time. I know that you are all going to find the required classes as irritating as Frank’s children are, but I still must ask that you make a few appearance in the, If just to give examples of why you don’t need to be there. I am sure that all of you will be excused from them before long. Alice there has already been asked not not to come back to the one on measurements, so she can tell you the best way to get that to happen.”
A man nodded. “However I fully agree with her, that was a completely silly way to try and get the depth of a crater. Still there is far better ways for her to spend the time than sitting back there laughing. Now that the rest have seen she knows what she is doing so won’t use her not being there as proof they don’t have to be. Or at least I can say if you can explain Calpgering’s findings then you to are free to go.”
Alice said. “You could just ask for an accurate hand drawn campus map. I did rant about the mistake in the printed map. Bet not a one has found it yet.” He laughed.
Jade smiled. “I not member, and will see known. But will visit what I can. Inside is harder, but will be some. Help see what taught.”
Alice nodded. “I am fine with the safety classes. It is important to see that what is being said is right, not the misinformation that has been published in some of the books. Just a bit to hard to sit through map making skills that I found useless from the start. Those methods give inaccurate results seventy percent of the time and are harder to use, yet are always taught first. Never made since to me, but then I was making maps before I had my first real class. Here let me make copies of this, now that it is done.” She laid out blank paper and waved her hand. Maps drew there selfs on the sheets. “Yes it can just appear, but I like to watch it. There are five in each pile. That is as many as I can do in a stack, and only as I had spelled the paper earlier. There you go, and yes they are accurate and permanent. Even water proofed.” The man picked one up looked at it then at her. She shrugged. “I had to show off a bit and add more landmarks than you had there. It will help out there. It is nothing that you won’t find, some you should all ready know. Now get those and I will make the next set.” It wasn’t long until there was enough maps that everyone in the group would have one. Then the meeting broke up.
Jade’s father turned to Dr. Holmes. “So were you able to find us a house? I know it likely made it a bit rough on you. Not many here would like the idea of living near a bunch of mages. Then to need such a large one.”
Dr. Holmes said. “I had to go with two that are next to each other to get you something on the other side. If that won’t do then we haver one on this side that is close to the bridge. We can go see them now. Truly your requests were easier than a number of others. Yes there are some that are jumpy, but this school dose have a program for mage students so it is not as bad here.”
He nodded. “The two houses should be fine as long as they are close to each other. So if you will just show us to them, that will do.”
Dr. Holmes nodded. “There is a carriage waiting for us, so if you will just come with me. I fear I can’t walk across the bridge, it makes me dizzy. I am fine once across it, just the crossing unbalances me”
Jade nodded. “Most so. The energy changes. Blinds me.”
Her father nodded. “I didn’t even think of walking across it. There are some who do so?”
Alice nodded. “Only by hanging the rail, I would think. I haven’t seen any try it in the middle. I call a Zeep and ride across, for all it caused a bit fright the first time as I didn’t know it wasn’t done, after all it is something any could do. Since then I warn any near. Here. These are better than the ones I gave out. I thought you would like more details, but there was enough for most on the others. Lady can you take it or is the spell to much? I can remove it if you need to me to. It is just to keep the map from getting lost.”
Jade said. “No title fine me. Jade. Yes I can take it, Gardain.”
Alice smiled, and handed her the map. “ Deal you call me Alice and I will call you Jade.” She left, still a bit troubled, no matter what they said this was a sign of trouble coming. Once out of sight she said. “Jade, go send this in and see what they have to say. Here is a copy of the map. You know where to leave it.” The little dragon lifted off her shoulder took the map and took off. Alice then went on to the class she should be at.
